Default G series lsd centre in diff trouble :-(

    Hey guys,

Well i bought myself a G-series lsd centre off ebay for $325 and finally got around to putting it in this moning. Well all went to plan until it was time to pull the righthand side axle out. I tried pulling with drum on backwards, a crowbar, hammer and 1/2 inch drive, massive mates couldnt even oull it out.

    Any ideas???

Why has it done this, surely it shouldn't be that hard to pull out???

Ps. Yes there is write up for this conversion, but it doesn't have any photo's and is a bit brief. I have been taking photo's along the way as well as what tools u need and etc. So i plan on doing a more visual write up... Any objections?

    Cheers Craig

the easiest way to get the axles out is to get an old rim and weld the thick shaft on it...pointing in the direction of the where the axle comes out. then you get something really heavy with a hole in it tp use as a sliding weight.

when i made mine, i used a thick bolt welded to a rim with a MX83 diff housing as a sliding weight....simply slide the bolt through the diff housing (weight) put the nut on the bolt....and slide the weight out as hard as you can....3 good hits and the axle will come out

I once witnessed a special axle-pulling technique which involved a small tractor and a length of heavy chain. It worked but I wouldn't really recommend it.

just bolt wheel back on lie underneath and kick from other side. make sure the car is on stands or something solid because you dont want it falling on you!

Ive actually seen axles which have twisted so badly in the centre that they simply would not come out. Diff was rooted (holden/bogwarmer crap) and wouldnt rotate of course, and we gas axed that one off to get the brakes. Another idea might be to heat the housing where the axle bearing sits. This is what is sticking and causeing you to not be able to get it off. Liberally coat with NuLube, and get a propane burner or gasaxe on low heat etc and use shock therapy. if you heat it up, you may be able to use the backwards drum and short handle mini sledgy to remove.

there will be a bit of flare up from the nulube, and you will need new bearings, but it should give.

Yep this works a treat! I used 2 shackles that I bolted to the 2 holes on the ta22 axle and a piece of chain that was also connected to the shackles making a loop similar to the pic above. I used a mates sledge hammer and swung away in the loop, after a few swings it pulled the axle out straight onto my foot . Worked a treat

here is the difference in axle and centre sizes (from the outside of the housing even with prior measurements taken its hard to figure out what diff you have if its not the original one, i couldnt find any kind of code stamped on it at all, unless its on top of it)

also, if anyone has a g-series diff for sale let me know

    cheers

Whats that F series out of?? what are the drum to drum width measurements?? I know they fit, but you need gheyness FWD offset rims... and I couldnt bear losing the phat deep dish rims I love so much. If there is indeed a narrow F series that will fit without resorting to lack of dish rims, I am more than all ears.

    Cheers, Owen

PS, Im not interested in shortening the diff either unless I can get it done as a cheap cashy.

oh yeah, u sure thats an F series diff?? That centre looks awefully small. The crownwheel sizes are meant to be: G - 8", F - 7.5", T - 6.7"

Seems to me a bit that you have a T series next to a G series due to the size difference. Perhaps you should measure??
