    Default steering settings for ta23

    hi guys

i need to replace some steering components for my TA23 (idler/pitman/bottom balljoints) but i only have the workshop manual for the TA22. i know that some of the parts are slightly different so i was wondering if anyone knows what torques to use or if they the same as the TA22.

    thanks

ps. if anyone knows a better place to get said componants then out in bairnsdale that would also be appreciated

try gimmecarparts.com.au (google, gimme car parts) they are in victoria. I bought all that stuff for an RA40, so the should have the same parts for an TA23. Although TA23 probably wont be listed, so find out if u have a TA22 steering setup or a ra23 setup, and buy gear for that.

The only hard part about replacing all that stuff is just the pitman arm, which can be really hard. But follow the steps in ur TA22 manual and u should be fine.

    thanks

how do i check what set up it is
i would guess it has the TA22 setup seeing as the engine is the same.but it has the RA23 body which makes that almost as likly.

Here are all the 555 / Powermax part numbers of the steering components for an RA28/RA23 celica.

You can get these from any Supercheap auto, Autobarn, Repco..... anywhere!

    SX5241 - Pitman arm
    SX4246 - Idler arm
    TE489L - outer tie rod end x 2
    TE490R - inner tie rod end x 2

I would imagine the torgue setteings are the same however to be sure, maybe ring toyota and see if they have an old workshop manual you can borrow, or do a google search and see what you can drum up.

TA23 shares the same steering components as the RA23/28. All of these components other than the steering box and idler arm mounting bracket are also identical to RA40s.

Internals of the steering box are the same between the aforementioned vehicles, so the internals from an RA40 can be used to repair an xA2x box and vica versa. Idler arms for RA40s are $80(last check) whereas those for xA2x are $125(last check). What you can do is buy an RA40 idler arm, and take the bushes and arm with balljoint off the shaft, and swap them onto the early model shaft. saves $45 for 10 mins work.

Otherwise, all bushes and balljoints are identical. Its the TA22s that are the odd ones out.

BTW, pitman arms are the same between them... $40ish from any of the aforementioned parts suppliers.

What vehicle do you have, initial post was for TA23, Owen covered what parts to buy in post 6 now you are quoting RA24/9. As Owen said if it is a TA23 just buy RA23 parts.

i own a ta23 but the part im looking for is common with the ra23/28 models so its easier to identify it as such while looking sorry bad habit

my problem now is that none of the normal places have this part or have to import it themselves so i will have to import it myself...the problem im having is that the engines for the american versions are different so the chassis numbers are different ...there doesnt seem to be any TA models and RA models have different numbers ra22/4/9 ....im not sure if they still have the same steering parts. so i either need to confirm that these are the correct model to order for or find a place to import from that has the same chassis numbers that we do.

Which part do you require?? Idler arm is the ONLY hard to come by one, and I have a near new one for sale. 555 branded, I paid $130, sell $50. Only reason Im selling is that Im converting to rack and pinion.
