    Default 7AFE performance options?

I have just had to install extractors, because my stock manifold was completely cracked between 2nd and 3rd cylinder. I did have plans to turbo it, but I didn't have the money to turbo it now, so i couldn't buy a turbo manifold (well I could have but it would have been useless with out the rest of the parts). So I had to go for extractors NOW.

I was thinking now that I have extactors there is not much point replacing them with a turbo manifold (well there is but that means i loose money on them). So I was thinking maybe I should go back to my original plan and supercharge it using the SC12 or maybe even the SC14. This would allow me to keep the extractors

So what do i need to know about SCing the 7AFE that i don't already know?

Can I use the SC12, and get the 4AGZE ecu but still use the FE head? as it apparently has tonnes of torque when boosted. Or should I just use the 7AFE ecu with an piggyback ECU like the Greedy Emanage?

    Costs:
    SC: SC12 - ~$400
    ECU: 4AGZE - ?
    Greed Emanage - $550
    Fitting: ~$400
    Tunning: ~$250
    Piping: ~$200
    Anything else?

The alternative would be just to stay N/A. What sort of power could i get out of the 7AFE N/A? what mods can I do? I guess cams, GE head?

basically your extractors just became throw away items if you had previous intentions of modifying this engine with forced induction....

unless you make a very custom supercharger system, you will have to use a 4ag** head, to which your extractors wont fit.

Another thing to note is the 7AFE rods are quite weak and will eventually snap if taken above 6000rpm or close to it, especially with some forced induction.
    ...... butt scratcher?!

    Definitely agree with The Witzl
    Turn your 7AFE into a 7AG.
16V or 20V head.... it will be better than the 7AF head.

Get a set of rods made up, and put some high comp pistons in it.
It will be better off than any force induction 7AFE.

I would leave the standard ecu and then piggy back it or a stand alone ecu, there would be greif with trying to go to a 4AGZE ecu, id boost the standard engine but keep boost at realistic level, about 8psi max and make sure you have adequate intercooling and get the thing tuned properly, adjusting both the spark and fuel maps. Leave the cams the way they are and that way the thing wont need to do a billzillion revs. It would make for a nice torquey every day pocket rocket.
    Good luck

So you recon just strengthen the rods and pistons and then up the compression? What sort of power would that get me?

I like you're talking ok piggy back sounds good to me. and yeah 8psi was about all i was planning to run with the turbo setup i was planning too. So you recon I'd need an intercooler too?

Yeah a nice torquey pocket rocket that is still capable to being daily driven is exactly what i want. Being able to win (or a least put up a good fight) the odd traffic would be great too

The beauty about the supercharged system is that when you want to sell the car, un-bolt it, return it back to a stocker and then sell the supercharger kit seperate. You may or maynot be able to run 8psi safely, you will need to do your home work there, but i think you should be able go close to that.
If you can fit the bigger charger (sc14 i think) that would be better, you would be able to acheive you bosst at a lower rpm or alternativly at the same as a smaller one but with less intake temps. An intercooler will just help keep the air intake temps at bay to prevent detonation. As for the ecu side of things a stand alone is always going to give you more usability but for the ease of it a piggy back would be great as you get to keep all of you cold start, cruise, egr, etc etc settings which is nice.
If your going to do it though make sure it is done nice, not by some backyarder hack who says he can do anything, you will need to go that extra bit of effort to make a really nice package of it in my opinion.
