    Default 1UZ bottom end bits

I pulled a head off my 1UZ today, and like I suspected it's had water in it at some stage and one of the bores looks a bit average.

Originally, I was planning to remove the heads, and do as much work on heads/cams/intake/etc. and see how far I could push a stock bottom end NA. Obviously now the bottom end needs a rebuild before I even begin...

What I was thinking of doing is:

Crank: See if it can be lightened any, generally cleaned up, balanced, etc.
Rods: Peen, balance, and polish the stockers
Pistons: Here's where I was looking for ideas. Obviously I need to rebore the block and use different pistons anyway, and I wanted to up the compression quite a bit. It would be better to do it with the pistons than by decking the heads. Has anyone ever looked into/priced anything piston wise for an NA 1UZ?

    Comments/suggestions/etc. all appreciated!

lextreme currently has a group buy for ross forged pistons in overbore sizes and whatever c/r you like for US$700

ill be looking into piston design and manufacture for NA engine once ive got my cams out of the way.

for rods, you should probably check out: http://www.v-eight.com/tech_forum/index.php

note the standard rods are not forged. note the alternatives available inc modified stock toyota 7m rods. tehres an article on there re: the benefits of peening, and a contact no for a guy in western syd with all the gear and a background in metalergy and materials engineering.

i wouldnt do it decking the heads- youll run into isses with the heads/water bridges. also as its one long timing belt, you may have issues with that too...

Pistons are available locally from ACL forged in either 8.5 or 10.5: 1
available in two sizes .5 and 1mm oversize
Price from your local repco store is $1340.95

So shop around and you do better.

US$700 for pistons? If I can read correctly, it looks more like $1100... However, US$1995 for the pistons, rods, rings, pins and bolts is somewhat tempting. I'll have to see what that lot would cost with shipping, tax, etc. in $AU

    Ahh, thanks!

If that group buy went ahead it might be just what I need...
