Default Microtech x4/x6 vs other igniters

After reading the other x4 installation thread it got me thinking about how good these things are?

How do they compare to say toyota stock igniters or msd dis2 or dis4?
What about stock igniters with HKS DLI?

Don't really have a way of testing except for if you are getting spark blow out on one igniter and change to another which fixes it at the same plug gap.

    Thanks

I was using Nissan CA18 ignitors until i found that they dont like having a nice clean signal from an ECU.
The X4 seems to work quite well, i picked up a few hp in the midrange for some reason too. The Bosch BIM027s in parallel running wasted spark seem to be what everyone uses for race cars these days, and apparently are pretty much indestructable.
The BIM008s (Camira) ignitors tend to be a bit iffy under heavy load and heat apparently.

    008's aren't a dumb igniter are they?

The X4 is as simple as it gets, 4 igniters in a neat alloy box. They're very cheap and I can only imagine reliable, most likely due to their simplicity.

So far as i can tell the 008s are a dumb ignitor. I think.

My 008's are being used as dumb ignitors.
At least I think they are

And they aren't BIM008's for the record, they are BIM023's
    Part number is 1 227 022 008

    The BIM027's are the 124's

There are two types of Camira igniters, the 124's and the 008's. From my research before I bought the X4, I was under the assumption that the 008's were "intelligent" and the 124's were "dumb"

The bosch ignitor listed as 0 221 100 124 isnt a camira one. But the main bosch cattledog lists it as BIM124, but the Motorsport cattledog lists it as BIM027.

Correction made to my above post.

    BIM023 is carby Camira (008's)
BIM027 is bosch EFI Camira (124's)

EDIT: This info is straight from the Bosch catalog.

Ah, there we go. The BIM027 is definately dumb, despite the pretty casing.

After reading Karls DLI write up, I've realised that the 008 is not a dumb ignitor, as I can unplug it and wire up a stock Toyota ignitor and not change a setting on the ecu.

If I want to use a 124 I have to change the DWELL= setting from DUTY_CYCLE to TIME_BASE (or vice-versa)

Ok so you saying that Camira igniters were better than stock ca ones?

And how do they relate to x4/x6?

we've used 008's on some big horsepower cars without issue. Like any ignitor - make sure you give them a DECENT heatsink, and dont mount them in a spot where they can effectively overheat.
We have used the microtech "X box's" on many applications - some even involving other ecu's. In my opinion they are very reliable, reasonably priced and adequately "sinked".

Better yet......... Has anyone had any problems with an "X box"???????

Only when the plug came out after not being clipped in properly.
