    Default Corona ST141 gearbox model

Hi, I am looking to know extactly which gearbox is in the ST141 5 speed Corona, I know that it's made by Borg Warner but what I want to know exactly is the model number or which other cars have the same gearbox internals.

The 5 speed was only optional in the ST141 it came standard with 4 speed manual. RT142 has a W55 in it so I'm guessing the optional 5 speed in the ST141 was the same.

Oh and yes the ST141 5 speeds were also a borg warner...

...and for the last fricken time RT142s have W58s, or certainly the three that I've had were W58s!!

Dude I had one it had a W55, the ratios were very different to the W58 in my MA61. First, second were very short in comparison and that was despite having a taller diff ratio.

just what I have been wanting to hear thanks, now if anyone knows if the gearbox has a model number. The only transmission listed on wikipedia from Borg Warner from that year is a T5.

So I assume they feature a cast aluminium housing?

Also why does everyone hate these boxes? whats so bad about them?

This is a screenshot of a gearing calculator spreadsheet, with the Corona Borg Warner gearbox ratios.

The only difference between the 4 speed and the 5 speed is the 0.86 overdrive, all other ratios are the same. I got this information from a service manual, no idea on the actual model of the gearbox. Not a bad box, but freeway cruising in top gear is pretty annoying (I have a 4 speed)

    Sammy,

Are you still hunting this one? My old girl has a ST141 with a 5 speed, I can crawl under there with a flashlight if your still chasing?

IMO there is nothing bad about the gearbox, having broken 1 and changed a clutch in annother. They put up with plenty of abuse from the "mighty" 2SC... haha and make a good first car for any kid.

Go on Burn me, its just my 5 cents haha

If they're a T5 they suck for paddock bashing, you get grass stuck in the external shifter mechanism and end up loosing gears till you burn out the grass that gets stuck

The theory I heard why everyone hates them because they don't change gears happily at 7000rpm, 70's syncro tech isn't very inspiring.

I've seen a W box take a 500hp 350chev for over a year now, and you can break those early borgy boxes with a 202 and a quick skid.
