Most instrument clusters don't run off ecu's.
    They run directly off sensors.

Only very new cars have the instruments off the ecu.

AE111 could be late enough to be a pain - if you can find some diagrams (walk into a friendly toyota spare parts counter and ask them (very nicely) if you could look at the wiring book for the car) and the cluster has an MPX (or MPX1 or MPX2) pin or pins on it, forget it...
Otherwise, as Cruzida said, it should be no problem but YMMV...

If you have the cluster you have the diagram.. (and pinout...)
Most clusters (IIRC AE101 is no different) have enough labels on them to be able to use them without needing any reference material.
Which bits are you not sure about?

Things like fuel, tacho, temp, speedo will have a power pin (IG+ usually), an earth pin (GND or similar) and the signal pin - respectively FU, IG-, TU, SI (sometimes), 4P (output from speedo, designation varies).
The earths and powers may be connected together or may be supplied separately from the loom.
    Does this help?

sorry about the photo, its a really bad camera.
    Yep, very bad camera

    B1
    02 - ground/earth ???
Not sure - ground or earth would be white/black or brown on the loom - what components does it go to?
    03 - Backlight power/sc-chg(-) ???
    04 - ground, sc led ???
Not too sure, but there should also be a charge light somewhere? Is that it?
10 - exhaust heat ??? (looks like a Catlyc with heat coming off it)
Don't worry about that. Exhaust overheating warning light (EGW) - you need the sensor fitted in the exhaust for it.

    13 – ig (tacho signal ???)
There's no - or + there? If it goes to the tacho pcb, and ground and power are fed through other pins it could be the tacho signal - wire colour most likely black.

    B2
    01 - in ( back of speedo ???)
Could be pulses into the speedo.
    02 - p4 (speedo pulse out or in ???)
Could be pulses out of the speedo.
    10 – GE ???
Not sure off the top of my head ...
    12 - P (tach pulse ???)
Not ringing any bells either, sorry - what component does it run to?

Do you have the loom for this? (If so, have you traced where any of the unused wires go?)

    previous post updated....
no loom, still need to find plugs somwhere.
GE and IG ar common around the back of the cluster, so i doubt that it will be the tacho pulse
P runs to the back of the tacho

    cheers mike
