    Default Identifying C56 LSD

I might have a lead on a C56 LSD box.

I believe that the (optional) LSD isn't a plate type, so what's the best way of checking?

    use a crystal ball!!

    look through the axles holes
if you can see a hex shaped bar blocking your veiw its a stock viscous LSD

actually there is a better way - but the gearbox needs to be out of the car to do it. the helical lsd's look very similar to open diffs when you look at the diff center.

take the speedo drive out - look at the side of the crownwheel - that will tell you for sure what diff you have (you can see the diff center - helical look vewry differnet to a open diff)

Sweet - I'm not sure if it still has the shafts attached or not, that might be easier.

Looking through the axle holes isn't a reliable way to check whether the g.box is LSD or not. Pretty much every toyota fwd box i've seen has that bar across the centre.
