Default 1GGTE metalic sound pinging inside engine !

Hi, two weeks ago I started to listen a sporadic metalic sound comming from engine bay.

Yesterday morning the sound started to sound almost the time, as much in low or high rpms and its easy recognize inside the car.

The sound appear to comming from the inlet side of the engine, I pull off the valve cover but nothing is loose.

May be some metal piece bronken inside the oil carter and pushed by the oil pressure ?

The engine works well and idle around 670 rpms

I am attaching a .mp3 file with this metalic sound in order to know if somebody can recognize the sound.

Piston use pin-locks in that engine? if not, it could be that too.

agreed, sounds like the dull clunking/knocking sound i had when the oil pressure was... non-existant... if it was happening in all cylinders, i'd say oil pressure.. but .. bearing time

good time to freshen the engine tho

and if you are lucky, the crank may not be too scored yet.... don't drive it...

Grega, this engine have a new intake manifold with no Tvis.

Old Corollas, I have oil pressure, 7-10psi at idle and 22-25 psi at 2000rpm and up, may be low but I found a japanese manual for this engine and 7mgte where this is normal. High flow, low pressure oil system. The car is in the garaje. What things will be involved when You said "good time to freshen the engine" ?

If the problem is some bearing, I can see it if the oil pan is drained and removed ?

yah, take off the sump, wiggle the big end bearing caps and see if the rods are loose on the crank...

then take off the big end bearing caps and check the bearing and crank journal... not such as easy job in car, and you need a torque wrench to do them back up....

This could be your Harmonic Balancer on your Crank. Coffee also has the same problem. I would suggest you hear very closely, they dont call it a harmonic balancer for nothing, sometimes you can hear it play A cord, this is the cord your want to hear, if you hear C cord it needs replacing, hope i could help.

I found a forum with a sample of the same sound metalic, but may be worst than my engine..., results bearings damaged:

    http://www.4x4wire.com/forums/printt...37&type=thread

Yesterday, I was able to remove all screws but was not possible to remove the oil sump, there is not enough clearance between the bottom part and the chassis where sit the steering.

I will search a mechanic shop near my home or somebody that has the equipment necessary to raise to the motor at least four inches..., or may be I will need to remove the transsmision to remove the oil sump.

Soon I will post, with pics, the end of this case..., thanks everybody.

    I can't believe on this !!!

The fifth con-rod is absolutely deformed, compared to the one of the second.

I was searching on stores of spare parts but I cannot find the right item, somebody knows the part number or similar item that fit this engine ?

I don't know if they are original parts, first time that I can see this part of the engine.

If the bearings are that bad, the crank is also going to be munted - time to rebuild (or find a replacement engine)

Thechuckster, the bearing is in a bad state but, the crank is slightly scraped, nothing seriuos. Almost the same shape in all connectors.

I will check again this afternoon and takes some pics to show it here.
