    Default Retrosound Stereo into TA22

    Hi,

Just posting pics and info on how I fit my retrosound stereo in my TA22. The brackets that came with the unit didn't work for lining up the dials with the stock holes. So I made some from bits I got from Bunnings.

The I designed the dials to look like the stock ones, but fit on the Retrosound shafts. They were 3D printed by Lambolica.

I'm also using a retrosound dual coil speaker in the stock location. It fit pretty well with only a small amount of filing.

    Pics to come.

    Cheers,
    Chris

That looks great! How hard was the install otherwise? Are you happy with the retrosound in general?

They seem a bit pricey but the ability to fit in the stock location is pretty great.

Very tidy install, mate! Which model radio did you use from the Retrosound range?
2002 ZZE122R Corolla wagon - daily drive and mover of many things
    2013 ACR50R Tarago auto - family bus
1994 AE102R Corolla RV Seca 1.8L auto - sorta broken former daily gathering weeds
1974 TA22 Celica 2T - driven as much as possible!

The install was pretty easy, just had to adjust those brackets a bit at a time until they sat right. Overall I really like the retrosound. It works great with my iPod and my android phone. My wifes iPhone worked fine with it to start, but stopped working after an iOS update, so not sure what that was about, but doesn't effect me much. I still need to get used to the controls as obviously its a bit tricky with nothing labelled. The mess of wiring is probably my least favourite thing about the unit, it would me much better if it just had ports on the back so there was no wires other than the ones you wanted.

It's definitely a pricey unit for what it does, but I wanted to keep the car looking period correct without sacrificing usability, so it was a good option for me.

I used the Model 2, but I bought it about 2 1/2 years ago, so not sure if the line up has changed.

Model 2 was discontinued and the San Diego is the top of the line (strange names but meh) it has digital radio. I'd be interested in how the sound quality of the retrosounds as it seems some reviews don't rate them??
Yes the old Celica's are great cars thanks..

Probably a throw-back to Blaupunkt which used to name their head-units after cities of the world

I'm happy with the sound quality in mine. I'm sure there are options out there that will give better sound quality, but not without looking out of place, or being hidden out of sight, which I wanted to avoid. I can't make a direct comparison to another head unit as this is the only one I've had in the car.

Fair enough as long as it doesn't sound rubbish.
