Default MX83 A340 Removal With Engine In Place

Recently did an 1jz engine swap on a mx83 but now i have the front seal on the transmission leaking.
To get to the front seal can i remove the transmission without removing the engine from the car?
The top bolts look difficult to get to but i really don't want to go through the process of removing the engine again.
    Any advice would be appreciated

    Thanks

It definitely is possible, and my experience is with a R154 so a lot less space to deal with.

The easiest way I found was loosening off the engine mount bolts so the engine could rock and then lowering the trans slightly to give you better access - and doing this may require some extensions and/or some form of swivel joint to get to the top bolts.

Word of warning though that once the trans is disconnected, then engine may want to tilt forward (its been a while so I cant remember by how much) so either have a helper keeping an eye on it or stick a piece of wood to protect the front of the engine/back of the radiator.

    Thanks,
I'll definitely grab a helper for this job, and I'll make sure to have the engine properly supported.
Is there any trick once all the bolts are off or can the transmission simply come off then? (A340 May be different from R154)

I think the trick with the A340 is to make sure all the flex plate bolts are removed so that you bring out the torque converter with the trans and obviously making sure everything is disconnected before lowering (trans cooler, shifter, wiring).

Other than that, it should be the same as taking out the manual other than its a heavy bugger - last one I weighed was near on 80kg so have some way to support it as doing that by hand even with a helper isn't going to be easy.

Put a jack under the auto crossmember, undo its bolts then lower it 3 inches or so. Will give good access to the top bellhousing bolts, use a uni and all your socket extensions and come at them from way back near the crossmember.
There is no substitute for PUBIC inches

Thanks for all your help guys,
Got the transmission in and out without too much hassle, and for anyone who finds this thread here is what i ended up doing:

First i put the car up on a hoist and pulled unbolted the exhaust pipe and tailshaft
Then i loosened the engine mount bolts and put a jack under the rear of the transmission
Unbolted the transmission rear and lowered down (slid in a block of wood supporting the front of the engine)
Pulled off the cables, oil lines and kickdown cable and started loosening the main bolts (with the help of long extensions and uni joints)
Then i pulled off the starter motor and the front transmission cover (to get to the torque converter bolts)
Then i rotated the engine and removed each of the torque converter bolts
Then with the transmission fully supported slid her back and she was free
Getting her back in was pretty straightforward,
Once i got the transmission properly lined up she slid back on
Then using a bolt hole to hold the torque converter while i rotated the engine to line up the torque converter bolts
From there i just did the previous steps in reverse

Overall fair bit of work to replace a seal but not too difficult
