    Default Corona diff swap/upgrade

I've just started a build with my eldest daughter on my grandfathers 1979 Toyota corona. Car is going to become a dedicated burnout car in his memory.

Looking at upgrading or swapping out the rear diff to handle the increase in power and torque from a Holden V8.
What options do I at either upgrading and strengthening the current diff or is there a bolt in upgraded diff I can swap with?
Diff will end up shortened as the car will be tubbed

    what model corona is it?
I'd prob suggest using a hilux diff (early 4x2 one - ln41 or similar) as that should be about the right width. will be 5x114.3 pcd though.
Easy to get ratios / lsd too

Will hav to check the model. It's a 4dr sedan with a Holden star fire engine and 4sp manual.

Won't the hilux diff be on leaves springs?
This has a coil spring rear end.

    bw68 series diff i think?

yes hilux diff is on leaf springs - they are just brackets, cut off & weld on the brackets from your existing diff.

doubt you are going to find anything else stronger that is a bolt in option. hilux best compramise on price & strenght. heaps of ratios & cheap lsd's.

i have a spare ln41 hilux diff in the shed - but i'm in vic. suspect freight would cost more than its worth

Won't b using an lsd will need it permanently locked.

Any particular model diff or any hilux 4x2 should do?

Any way to change the front hubs then to match the rear 5 stud hubs?

Take it the current diff can't b strengthened at all?

only the early hilux diffs will suit rn25 or ln41 - later ones are wider & won't work for you.

yes it's been done - apparently you may be able to use z31 300zx 5 stud hubs - they all use the generic "holden" type a & b front bearings. or s13 front strut upgrade. otherwise look at:

anything is possible if you want to try I suppose - commodore type diff is the next b/w upgrade, but pcd is different again.....
