    Default 2JZ//MX83 overheating

    Looking for some ideas;
    I have a 2JZGTE in a MX83 -
    50mm full alloy rad
    600x300 IC
    AC condenser
    Oil cooler
Twin 10" spal fans in a shroud

Situation is that when cruising around its alright, will sit on mid to low 90's but if I jump on the freeway and do 110 with the AC on it will overheat if I let it, same deal if I have to drive up a large hill doing the speed limit. Its always run with the fan essentially running, it had a controller that cut them in at 100c but they will always cycle on and off regardless. I've removed that but if I drive around with them off it will run hotter than with them on....

Of late I think its been getting worse....

Radiator checks out fine but I'll replace it anyway
Thermostat is mint, was replaced 12 months ago and it tested fine today
    Coolant is mint, genuine toyota.

Nothing has really been fucked with in the front end, though the front bar is a shitty design that doesnt help.
It is missing the plastic undertray and there is a gap (50mm) between the IC and the condenser.

My current state of thought is to fuck off the thermo's, fit a 2JZGTE viscous fan with the standard MX83 shroud, put an undertray in and plug all the gaps I can see.

    Anyone here have suggestions?

Put the under tray back on. South had overheating issues on the freeway til he reinstalled it, then all sorted (from memory)

Thoughts on getting the viscous fan working?

i would start with the undertray/proper shrouding all around the radiator as well. LS1 e36 we built literally would refuse to keep temp until we installed every single tray/shroud back on. then it was apples

2JZGE fan & clutch with the fan trimmed is the go?
heap of shit out there on using a LS400 clutch but idk

Stupid lebo **** wreckers sold me the wrong fan/hub a week or two ago, will try swapping it tomorrow for a NA supra one.
Found a shroud down the gong along with an undertray.

Have obtained a fan shroud, undertray, 2JZGE fan and clutch~
Did a trail fit today, fan will clear the radiator and shroud no worries however it will hit on the top radiator hose and water neck (expected).
Most people trim the fan half an inch to clear the hose but fuck that, that's precious CFM going to waste. I dont run the mid timing cover so I'll chop 15mm out of the water neck and not touch the fan.

Should be able to tig it up tomorrow, will see if I can get a new radiator at the same time.

Fuck the CFM, just cut it. You don't need 3500CFM to keep the motor cool at idle / low speed. Technically your fans shouldn't even be running while on the freeway, it's only because the issue is elsewhere that they are running to try and reduce temps.
We have customers with big block V8's using a 200CFM Spal fan and have no problems, the clutch fan is overkill (aka Toyota), but I wouldn't worry about giving it a trim up.

I had issues until I removed a/c condensor.

Still runs hotter then id like 88-90 crusing at 110 on the flat, 92 on a steady hill.

Having the under stray on makes no difference to temps on the highway, have defi water and oil temp gauges.

Those temps are fine, like, that's what a brand new JZA80 would run at.
Anything sustained under 100c is fine, anything from 100-110c is fine if its every now and then and anything beyond that is problematic.

Yet to put it all back together, maybe might get it done tomorrow but probably not.
There is still a feeling in the back of my head that I've done something more sinister but eh, we shall see. The setup hasnt changed, undertray has been off for a while but admittedly I think it was removed in autumn last year. Marginal cooling system's generally dont have issues during winter

If its done a headgasket then its not such a bad thing, I have cams to swap in, stem seals to change and a turbo/manifold to ceramic coat so its not much more work to r&r the head.

Got it together, took it for a drive, seems better.
Nearly wiped off the front cutting hoops so I'll have to wait till I'm either not such a shit**** or wait for a hot day and go on the freeway.

On the lookout for a better undertray, mine aint terrible but its wonky and fucked.

I think they must all go like that. Mine always looked wonky, streched and slopped out like a old vag.

Also re:temps I don't like my oil temps higher then 110, otherwise oil starts breaking down pretty quickly after that afaik. High water temps don't help oil temps. Not trying to redesign te engine just I don't like water temps over mid 90's when driving hard.
