Default how has my ra28 got a factory power steering box?

I have an fj20 converted ra28 with a powersteering pump and what looks like a stock toyota box. I didnt realise ra28s came with power steering.

I just want to confirm as its leaking and i need to get a seal kit.

That looks like a conversion. Could be an early cressida box as they were similar, not sure the model, but one of them was a bolt in fit to the RA40, so quite feasible something is bolt in or close enough to an RA28. Is there a part number on the steering box?

no casting part numbers unfortunately. The factory RA28 pitman arm bolts straight up as I replaced it without even thinking.

I might have to yank it out to find the appropriate seals.

You are correct though, definitely a conversion. Not sure whats going on with the thread between the chassis and the box, obviously works though so im not going to change it. Just the seals.

Looks legit... can't imagine the pitman spline got changed much through the models and years. I think your idea of leave it in and rebuild is a good idea though. Good luck finding seals. Maybe go look through the cressida section of pick n payless or similar for something that looks the same. I'll have a look at the one on my Crown to see if it looks similar.

Is it mounted with some sort of made up adapter plate?

Go onto ebay and look for power steering pump kits. Ask the sellers if they also have kits for your box. I found they seem to advertise the pump kits but seldom the other kits even though they have them. I think there might be plenty of people fixing their pumps but not the box/rack as it is a bit more difficult. I found a rack kit for my Cressida this way.

Would be Cressida. Maybe MX62?? Wouldn't be any model Celica, The only early model Celica with power steering had a steering rack I'm pretty sure. I've never seen an RA40 with factory power steering.
I doubt it but it could possibly be MA45? They have a power steering box the same style as early Cressida ones, Hence why they are bolt on fits for RA40's.
