Thanks for the link. I was thinking the neck of the 2tg distributor would be longer, but it looks the same length as the 3tc. 2tg just has a shorter clip so it can be moved up for more clearance. Looks like it doesn't have the octane selector.

Here's a scan out of the T series engine repair manual for installing the distributor in the factor position:

What I could try is to follow the procedure, but rotate the oil pump slot 30 to 40 degrees clockwise from the factory position. Insert the distributor and move the body so that the rotor button points to the no. 1 ignition lead on the distributor cap.

how did you go mate ? get it sorted? if so what did you find easiest way?

I'm rebuilding the Dellortos at the moment. Rebuild kit has just arrived. So once that is done I'll install the manifold.

I finally got around to installing the twin dellortos on the redline manifold for the 3TC.
I used the original distributor, and just rotated the body so that it didn't hit the edge of the manifold. Put the engine at TDC and noted where the distributor rotor was and arranged the ignition leads to the firing order accordingly (1-3-4-2). Made some adjustments with the timing light to set it at 10 degrees BTDC and it's all good. Probably didn't have to grind away at the manifold.
