Default electrical interferance between ECU wiring and battery cable

    howdy all.

im about to run the main 12v from the battery in the boot into the engine bay. i was going to run it through the same hole in the firewall as the microtech loom.....

just wanting to know if the current going through the 12v cable will interrupt the wiring to the microtech.....
what have others found with this setup and how dod you overcome it?

it may be as simple as there will be no dramas with running the two looms together, but i dont want to set it all up and find out that they cant be near each other....

    thanks in advance

    it's DC current, so no.

extra: It would be an issue if there was AC, like with variable reluctance sensors which operate at a range of frequencies.

sweet. i just wanted to make sure. nothing worse than having to pull all that apart again cause they are too close.

i was interested cause i have always had the practice of having power supply on one side of the car and audio cables on the other to avoid interferance. i was interested if this applied to ECU wiring as well.

    thanks for the help

    Hi,
While it is mainly DC there is an AC component on top of the DC coming from the alternator, and anything else that draws interrupted currents (like injectors, coils, electric motors, etc).
In practice this AC component is small (see below), and vehicle electronics are designed to cope with the noise.

In the case of audio amps, the extreme currents required during high output transients are effectively a form of AC which has the potential to interfere with the (low level) RCA cables, hence the guidelines to run them separately.

Your microtech loom should have any low level signals shielded, the high level signals should be immune to most interference, and the "noise" on the power cable in general should not be a problem for it.

(So after all that, it should be OK )
