Default Radelaide Locals - Road Trip and the Radelaide Tour - Places to see and shop

I have been reluctant to post up my most recent stupidity but would like to know what place to look at in Radelaide while I am there so figured fuck it, why not.

I often have trouble sleeping which results in the use of the internet for either porn or Vehicles for sale. I should probably look at more porn as I seem to have purchased a January 74 model Landcruiser. The Guy selling it was shady as fuck so I am not sure what I have bought really. I know it has some rust but rumour has it that it runs and drives and it has good tyres and 6 weeks rego. Thats pretty much all I know.

I fly into Radelaide on Tuesday morning (Dec 31st) with Harry to pick up what is hopefully a roadworthy Landcruiser, capable of getting us back to Sydney via Great Ocean Rd.

I have New Years Eve in Radelaide so I can check over the Cruiser and we can go watch the fireworks and then head of early on New years day for Port Campbell.

So I have a few Questions for the Folk of Radelaide.

    # What is the best parts store in Radelaide for old school Toyota Parts ? If anything is wrong with this thing I have only got the one day to get it sorted as all the accomodation had to be booked in advance and I need to get for work on the 6th.

    # If its bad and needs more than a set of spark plugs or an oil change, does anyone want to lend me a hand and access to their toolbox ? I cant take my tools with me on the train.

    # If by some miracle this thing is actually ok, whats good for a 10 year old to look at in Radelaide on New years Eve ? Oh and of course best place to see the Early Fireworks ?

    Thanks guys.

    This is the Purchase:

The plan is a 4 day trip back via Great Ocean Road.

Stopping at Port Campbell to see the Fairy Penguins who arn't gay so are now "little Penguins"

Spending the next day there and going up the Rd to Melba Gully to check out the Glow Worms.

Then Heading to Jaffa's place to Drool over his GTR22, via some rocks in the ocean of course. Before heading home.

Its a 40 year old Toyota, How bad can it be.......

    Hey,
    Looks good in the photo,

For spares Early Landcruiser Spares would be a start but I think they are closed until 6/1. You can find Brad on facebook.
Don Kyatt (Adelaide truck and 4wd Spares) on Regency Road Ferryden Park stock Terrain Tamer or Tuff Stuff 4wd on Main North Road at Blair Athol.

Your welcome to come around and use my tools, driveway, carport etc if you want, im in the northern suburbs and will be home. Its going to be a stinker New Years Day, about 38 so you will want to make sure the cooling system is up to scratch

as for the fireworks, im buggered if i know !

Give me a call if you want 0417806681

    Cheers
    Matt

I thought it might be a toymods member that bought the cruiser. That was my bosses car. I was welding away while you were talking to my old man.

2 days earlier and I could have shadowed you back though we came back along the river stopping in Swan Hill and Albury. But plans can always be changed.

    Bit of an update.

The Cruiser didn't check out quite as advertised but I am still happy with it.

The body of the truck I am pretty happy with, Rust is as expected, and only one dent I am annoyed about.
The two spare tyres turned out to be only one spare, which was bald and flat.
The good tyres all round turned out to be two good front tyres and cracked and perished rear tyres
And the "yes it works" rear window mechanism is of course fucking broken.

Otherwise it is pretty much as expected

The return journey of course did not go to plan.

    Road Trip Update

So the Cruiser made the first 1200ks or so just fine. Well once we put some new tyres on it and added some coolant (it was short 6 litres or water).

Then With Simons Help it got some new spark plugs and replaced a very perished heater hose since it had not been serviced since 2009.

And it made it like that from Radelaide, to Port Campbell.

A detour to Stuart's allowed some brake adjustment, brake fluid flush and an oil change. The old girl continued along the great ocean road and chugged along well. Oh did I mention the exhaust was missing (Rusted off)

180ks south of Albury the temp gauge jumped just a fraction, so I pulled over to check it out. Turns out the exhaust noise had drowned out a rather impressive water pump failure. I topped up the coolant and attempted to get to Benalla. 50ks later the pump bearings collapsed, the steel fan caught the steel fan shroud, twisted the blades and tore the ass out of the radiator

A $500 tow to Jaffa's place. Once inside the shed where awesome gets created I found a melted rubber grommet over one of the spark plugs. It was off the plug spanner we used in Radelaide. I guess the old bus got hot.

To try n get the Cruiser back to Sydney we fitted a new water pump, new thermostat gaskets and an old radiator from an FJ60 and its rad hose into it. So the next day, we were off towards Sydney.

Just after we crossed the NSW border... We blew a hose clamp.

A limp back into Bunnings saw the purchase of tools and some hose clamps and back on the road.... for a while.

The Bottom tank on the Rad split a little. just before Gundagai. Two bottles of stop leak and more water later...

Then it was the top Rad hose, it split at the clamp. So it got shortened, and redone.

And then it split again so got even shorter, and more water.

Then about 10ks out of Canberra the bottom tank on the rad split right open. So that's where we stopped.

The Rad is now waiting for a new core to come from Sydney and getting a new Thermostat just to be sure.

    Holy shit Rod that's epic.

Also top choice of cruiser I rate them highly!

Are you and the car back in Sydney yet or just you and Harry?
Bottom line: Life's too short, drive something you love.
