The hole closest to the firewall i was able to bolt directly to the metal frame(i used a couple of square metal washers to get the required clearance), the middle holes i used 120mm long bolts with 3 nuts(1nut to hold bolt to column and the other 2 on ether side of the frame) and the holes closest to the steering wheel i made up a metal bracket for. Once installed you also need to buy a seperate device that that gives the column a speed signal. If you just connect power to the unit it will not work. I found the device on ebay. It has a dial on it and you can adjust how easy the steering is with it. Normally its connected to the speed sensor so the steering gets stiffer as the car goes faster. I have mine set on the stiffest all the time as its pletty enough.

I've done the same thing using an '06 Toyota Yaris steering column on my TA23.
It was really very easy, chop the lower centre out of the original unit, both inner and outer, shoehorn the Yaris motor into it, random hilux intermediate shaft welded to Celica factory end to steering box.
Weld original Celica upper inner to Yaris slip joint and done. Uses the factory mounts up under the dash.
ECU is remote mounted and runs 3 wire setup in failsafe mode, not need for aftermarket controllers. Can be hooked up to a speed sensor but I haven't found it necessary.

$125 for column and ecu, probably 5 hours work total. One of the best 'mods' I've ever done.

The introduction of PS doesn't fix the slop issue right? I don't mind the weight of the steering. I just dislike the fact that there's a good 10-15 degrees of slop.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the progress, but as I said it was very simple. Once you have the two columns next to each other it all makes sense.
It won't fix any slop issues you have, that will be an issue elsewhere in your system, tie rods, ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm, excessive wear or incorrectly adjusted steering box.
With everything in good order you should have minimal slop, not rack and pinion quality but still good.
Here's a video of it working, takes 5~ seconds for the ecu to wake up and go.
(noise when turning is just the tyres skipping on the garage floor)
