    Default Uneven Tyre wear

So we had 4 new tyres fitted 3-4 weeks ago, and 3 days ago I had a tyre blow out due to excessive wear on the inner tread. The tyre that was replaced (drivers front) was worn down to steel.

Now the passenger side is showing the same thing. Infact tyre has lost almost all pressure, and is not far from blowing out.

Tyre pressures have been maintained, and I do believe that when the tyre's were fitted that an alignment was performed.

Question is, what would cause such excessive wear in such a short time ? I'm not positive about the alignment, and the car has not been driven in anything but a sedate manner.

my money's on the tyre scrapping the inner fenders or suspension stuff. even with crazy misalignment, 3-4 weeks is still to early to wear the tyres. you should notice the misalignment as well when driving if it's that bad.

If it was scraping though, wouldn't it make a pretty obvious noise? I know mine did when they scraped.

yeah that's what i thought as well.. but with very little info, we can't do much.
    - engine's too noisy to hear the tires scrape?
    - scrape noise is too subtle? 3-4 weeks to wear tire is too quick for misalignment, yet too long for heavy noisy scrape, perhaps?

i guess the key question to ask is, how long did the previous set of tires last before you change to new ones? did they wear out as quickly as the new one? do they differ in size profile? and was the alignment changed along with the new tires?

99.9999999% likely to be a fucked alignment combined with incorrect tyre pressures. not much else it can be really...

The tyres would surely be howling their heads off if the alignment was bad enough to go through belts in a few weeks...

    Sounds very weird.

for the tyres to wear out that fast due to alignment, the car would steer horrible.

did you ever smell rubber after driving ?

Run your hand over the tyre. If it feels "feathered" it's a toe-in/out problem, Squeals round corners or feels a bit touchy then camber/caster. Pressure loss or funny wear other than described then torn bead on one side so installation fault. Back to the shop you do go and be nice. If that don't work some table thumping and terse words are in order
