problem with throttle !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello guy some my problem is the throttle dosent open up(limp mode) on my 1jzgte vvti it has the etcs-i throttle we cheked wiring harness and every thing the only thing im missind is the maf probably thats the problem? has anybudy encounter the same problem engine is from a 1jzs171 crown

I did not think that vvti 1jz had etcs-i... I thought it was etcs (no -i). the -i means that it is effectively a fly by wire system. I thought that the vvti 1jz had a second throttle for traction control etc in front of the normal one... Maybe the later ones went to etcs-i . With the etcs-i systems there is a separate power feed for the throttle system, so it might be worth checking that it is wired up

Anyway, if you don't have the afm then that will be a major problem! To describe it simply, the engine ecu effectively injects a known ammount of fuel to try and get a desired air fuel ratio... It uses the afm to work out how much air is going into the engine so that it can put in the right amount of fuel, without the afm it will run poorly as it has close to no idea what is going on!

yeh it does have the etcs-i heres the pic to prove it,i got every thing conected tps,apps,motorised throttle valve, the only thing missing is the maf cuz i dont have it i have a late 1jz maf

so its just been wired up and the butterfly doesnt open
or it used to work and now it doesnt

If the pic is your car, it does have a MAF - right behind the air filter.

its just been wired up every thing is correct, and yeah thats i know i got a maf but its the incorrect one i got one for a jzx100 and i need the one for the jzx110 or jzs171

i remember reading about this years ago in the older forums
something to do with powering the fly by wire

we did check every thing and check continuity on all the cables...........

i got a diagram that shows that the maf has to be conceted that way the info send to to the computer will help the apps sensor and tps sensor

butterfly should still work even if maf is unplugged
u should be able turn ignition on and without motor running u should
move accelerator pedal and butterfly should move aswell

Speaking from my 2JZGTE VVTi experience as dumbass says that throttle should still work regardless of the MAF.

On 2JZGTE VVTi there is a separate power feed to the ETCS-i system (I think I already mentioned this). On the 2JZGTE VVTi there is an ETCS fuse which feeds power to the engine ECU +BM pin.

Do you have the JZS171 engine wiring diagrams you wired off that you can post / link to?

Your throttle control and opening system appears to work in the same manner as mine does. It is identical in layout on the wiring diagram. Mine will open the butterfly with the motor when the engine is not running. Check that the black wire with red trace is earthed.
