    Lightbulb 85 Hilux V6 conversion

    Hi guy,
Just began the project of fitting a commo v6 into my yn57 hilux. Got the kit from v6 conversions (very helpful) and things are progressing okay. However I need some help when it comes to using the commo p/steering pump on the hilux steering rack (no power steer) anyone that has tried this PLEASE advise on any way you have done/heard of this done. Cheers. P.S. I am new to this forum so please forgive if this has already been covered

V6conversions offer an idler pulley setup so you can delete the power steering pump. Easy as.

With the aircon you will need the fittings to suit the commo aircon pump and an above average automotive aircon workshop. The guys/gals of the workshop will be able to mate the two systems with these parts.

    hey mate,
any chance you could post some pics of the V6Conversions sump and pickup?
I presume its a modded steel jobbie from a VN/VP?

I'm interested in the quality of it, and whether they've done a proper job or just cut the recesses in to clear the steering arm etc.

    Thanks

if you wanted power steering you could get a power steering box, and make up some new lines, my v6 4runner had this setup.

To add A/C you'll need to get all the parts from a donor Hilux that has A/C
    Evaporator (inside cabin)
    Condensor (radiator looking thing)
Dryer (will need replacing, but best to have so they can match it)
    All hard lines
    All soft lines
    Pressure regulator
    Pressure switch
    A/C button and associated wiring.

You'll need to fit it all, and then get the commo A/C compressor fittings welded to the Hilux soft lines.

Only then can it be gassed.

hey mate got no pics of the sump (too eager to put on the car) but sump was 100% fabricated good quality welds with a powder coated finish. very proffesional job. The whole kit appears to be well done (havent got to wiring stage yet) Only problem was instrucions could have had clearer diagrams.Pretty sure pick up was from a WB/HQ was slightly longer and came further back.

Yeah thanks mate already have commo P/Steer pump and all lines etc but the lux had no power steer previously so need to know how to hook commo parts upto the hilux rack or do i need to modify/fabricate a new rack with commo parts. Totally confused

I'd say get a Hilux power steering rack from the same series as yours, and as many fittings as you can (bottle, cooler if needed)... then mate the commodore pump to it.

grab a power steering box ( they have a steering box instead of rack and pinion) from a 4 runner or surf(make sure it solid axle just be sure it will fit) . and get new lines made to hook the power steering pump to that.

try find one to have a look at first just to make sure it will bolt into your model

i've got a ln65 with the buick v6 conversion.because it's a 4wd i went for the 4.2lt stroker kit with lots of goodies and an awesome tune for more grunt. it's got a 5 speed auto with 2500 stall ands its a great combo. it has a load of tourqe and the pefect power to weight ratio. it leaves my mates new sv6 in cloud of smoke.

it had no power steering at first but still was running the pump.. all i had was the outlet pipe crimped with some oil in the pump to keep it lubed.. my air con runs all commo parts under the bonnet(condenser, pressure reg, hard and soft lines ect..) and has a coupling that joins the commo line onto the hilux line at the cab. when you get an a/c button and relay hooked up, it's as simply as finding your power out when switched on and then join it to the a/c compressor. with the power steering you can add it any time in the future as you can run decent high pressure hose clamped between the pump and box
