Default 2JZ single conversion. Beware, some educational content.

Did this job this week for a Bris supra owner. It's a healthy and tidy JZA80 6 speed Supra.

Spent half a day ripping the twins off. They are quite difficult to dismantle and the easiest way is to split the core and comp off the exhaust housings. This usually ends in tragedy for the delicate ceramic turbine wheels but they are heading for the bin anyway so they have to take one for the team.

Once the factory twins are in the bin we start with a head flange and a merge collector and T3 flange plate. The turbo is positioned and the head flange and merge/T3 flange are joined with a pair of welded rods.

The flanges are then transferred to the bench and the first two runners are made. This replaces the rods which can then be cut off.

From here the other 4 runners are made seperately and welded on. The flange is bolted to a C channel to keep it rigid. The head flange would be the shape of a banana by the end if this wasn't done.

The finished product with wastegate outlet.

    Fitted.

Dump pipe and wastegate return are next up.

Bolted up and plumbed for oil and water.

We used a generic cooler kit as they are pretty simple and seem to fit ok on these. Just had to fabricate a turbo to guard pipe as the kit only fits std setups. We used an EVO Bov on this to keep the compressor noise to a minimum. works well.

All plumbed up and ready to go. Made 367hp atw @ 15psi on std ecu and injectors with heaps of margin for safety. Goes well.

nice, if you could give details of which water and oil lines you used as well that would be awesome.

it is great to see the setting up of a new manifold and how its made.

did you do all the other lines yourself?

    what size turbo is it?

The oil and water lines are made from a handfull of enzed fittings. The oil line is a 7/16 unf inverted flare in the turbo, earls right angle jic to dash 4 braid(600mm long) to earls straight jic and the block fitting is speedflow 12x1.25mm to jic.

The water lines are child 1409 fittings in the turbo with jic weldon nuts. I weld parts of the original stainless water feed pipes to the nuts with a tig. Best way I have found to do it and the cheapest as well. Oil drain is a wrx oil drain cut and extended with carefully tigged joins. There is no easy way to make an oil drain on a hi mount 1/2JZ, they have to be a weird and painfull shape.

    It's just a garden variety 1.06 GT35, perfect for a street 2JZ.

Hey mate, great fab work. Did you make the merge collector yourself or buy it as a whole? It's sorta hard to see but did you tig all the pipes together or mig?

I'm guessing he used the TIG welder in the background of the pic of the dump pipe. That's some serious piece of merge collector there, I like it. Tell me, what do you use to cut the pipes at those angles neatly?

I bought the merge from Will Tobin at quickspool. It's a cnc cut thing I assume. I have made them before but it's a nightmare getting it accurate and they are only $200 from Will.
It's all tig welded on the joins but I use a mig in the process to tack pipes and fill areas in if necessary. The T3 flange was originally a square collector, I filled it in and reprofiled it to the oval shape that is the latest fashion.

Can these things not be bought ready made?
Or is there something special about this one?

Awesome, didnt realise you could buy a mere collector pre made. Started a welding course a while ago and now looking to have a go at making some pieces and the one thing i was dreading was the merge collector, so cheers for that.
I guess it depends on the thickness of the material but for something like the manifold are you doing a route pass then another pass ontop or is it not neccessary?

I took all the photos for the owner to keep him in the loop but I figure it's something of interest for people anyway.

The material is about 3.2mm. One pass is plenty. I use about 85amp.

If they are locally made id be up for 2 . Also the head flange how thick is it , could they be made in 16mm
