    Default Interesting Read: Squish Piston

While trolling around filling my braing with combustion chamber designs I came across an interesting article:

    http://www.mitsubishi-motors.com/cor...006/18e_05.pdf

Its modern conventional technology so don't expect any woowaahs, but its free and interesting read with plenty of pictures and pretty graphs.

maybe it'll help understand the likes bill and ed better ...just a tad bit more.

    happy reading.

Thanks heaps for that mate + Elevnty billion reps points

I did some research into tapered squish a couple of years ago and decided that while it was a better thing, it was too hard to incorporate into a conventional head, too much to make it worthwhile doing. Anyway, with the head I was looking at adding it to I found that I could get the flat squish areas very close to where I wanted them anyway so no real need for tapered squish areas.

FWIW the 1NZ & 2NZ series engines run excellent tapered squish, and the chambers in those look pretty good although it requires a complex piston shape to get all the clearances just right.

    Nice article!

The 2zzge and 1zzge also have tapered squish pistons. I think youll find that by reading most late model engine SAE they all have a similar thing.
