Erm not a great detail in this thread, but I recently put belts in the supra, one of them was permanently locked, I could see from the side the inertial reel thing was stuck, so undid the the screws on the side of the seatbelt, move the little thing back that catches it, put it back together and tested it twenty or so times to make sure it locked and released when I wanted it to and it worked and continues to work.
    If in doubt power out

    ^^^

like he said. pull it apart and put it back together.

I did this for the ra28 when i did blue slip a year ago.

To get new belts on the old 28 retractor i got cheap new units and swapped the belts into the old units. Worked a treat.

yeh, so no end to my headache i guess!

castle hill toyota e-mailed japan for me, and were told that NEW seatbelts were discontinued a long time ago.

ok, well thanks guys i guess ill just pull them apart and check for faults.

TA-022 - if they still don't work, i guess i should by some cheap units from repco and interchange parts?? i am after black or light blue, but i guess grey could work.

    check supercrap out.

i got i think ae71 units for the old ta22 i had. just need to open boxes and check mounting methods to match your needs. IE mine have 1 bolt and a locator tab... just need similar sized recoil unit with close bolt to tab spacing...their is minor play (1~2mm).

I had to get a replacment seatbelt for my GT4, ended up getting one out of an st184 from a wreckers as toyota wanted $300 - 400. Although mine was freyed and not locking.

The seatbelt will have a little ball, or weight in it that sits on a lever of sorts (not the best description, but thats the best I can give.) If the ball falls of the lever it causes the seatblet to lock. If the angle of the seatbelt mechanizim is incorect you will get continial locking. The idea being that sudden movment will cause the ball to move which will fall of the lever which causes the belt to lock as the lever moves.
I would pull it all apart and put it back together, as it seems to fix them most of the time. However do not pull of the side with the spring, (normally has writen on it so not remove.) as it will fly out and is a bitch to put back in. I have managed to do this. It helps to ppay attention when playing with car parts. Almost hit my frined in the head with it which was a laugh.

To re-belt a seatbelt, you can buy the seatbelt webbing from some places, and then some tailors will be able to stitch it up for your and are licenced to certify it for aus standards. This is a much better method than butchering a supercrap belt, which will almost certainly lead to the belt being somewhat unsafe. probably cost about the same too.

In townsville JR's foam and rubber sell the webbing, and they know who to take it to so you get it stitched to Aus standards. Just take the new webbing and old belt to them, and they will do it all for you... Dunno the price, havent done that for the RA23 yet, but ill keep people posted when i do.

/me pulls out his cane "I aint dogey sonny jim!"

Nah quite simple. Belt is ADR'd / original retracts are adr'd so nothing wrong.

Unwind - Unclip old belt - clip in new belt - let it retract - wallah!

Or if the new retractors fit then use them.... but in the case of my TA22 they didnt.
