Default Having trouble putting W58 back together

Well awhile ago I pulled apart a W58 for inspection, now today I thought i'd put it back together only I seem to be having a problem.

I've got both alloy housings, gear lever etc bolted up but as soon as I bolt up the bearing retainer plate, it binds up and the shaft wont turn at all and cant change gears, but without it it's fine, shaft spins freely and gears change easily.

Now i'm using a blue rtv sealant between the sandwhich plate and the alloy extension housings, no gaskets. I cant really remember if there were gaskets there or not to begin with. Could this be causing the problem or is it something else?

    Any advice would be good.

    Thanks

The rear housing is pretty fiddly to get back on without knocking it into gear.
I've had a selector rod have a slight notch on it before that was preventing the box from smoothly going back together. i just removed the rod and filed it down until it was flat, and then the box slid together easily.

Gasket goo is all that is needed.

Thanks for the reply, i'll have to go have another loook.

It's actually changing gears fine, putting the selector rod in wasnt a problem. It's just when I go to bolt the plate that covers up the bearings (bell housing end) it actually causes it to bind up and gear changes are impossible and the shaft will barely turn without some force.

I'll do a reassembly again and hopefully find out the cause.

Ahh, could it be that the circlip isn't seated properly ?
