Another question for you guys. What's the best option for an exhaust manifold gasket. Needs to be high boost (+24 psi) friendly.
    Cheers, Alex

My preference is to ensure the flanges are straight and ultra grey sealant with no gasket. High boost approved (+35psi)...

I recommend using a genuine 3TGTE exhaust gasket, its like e 2TG gasket except it has fire rings to handle the extra heat and boost....

That's awesome news man. NME Every time you mention something about your donk I'm always astounded at the kind of figures the 3T has to deal with haha.
I've used this on mine and the red for everywhere else (water pump, intake, waste gate)

What was the technique you used for applying it. I basically used the end of tube as a spreader rather than my finger and applied it as an even 2mm layer on everywhere but the runners and bolt holes.

Do you think an freshly build head and block would need a slight run over the exhaust ports with a belt sander? I ran the steam pipe manifold over the sander but not the head. Hopefully when Justin (JMR) rebuilt it he cleaned it all up and flattened it out for lack of a better word
    Cheers, Alex

Technique?? I use pointer finger to smear a layer I 'feel' is as thick as it needs to be but will not hang too many ugly dags into the intake when all is bolted tight!
I have never hit the head with anything just used sandpaper on a relatively flat surface to attempt to level the manifold and spacers I run.

    Good luck!

    Jason

Yeah we will soon see how it goes. If there is any issues I'll try using a 3TG gasket and the RTV.

I'm a little worried about the motor when it finally gets tuned as I have next to no formal training and it was all done on my own. I Assembled/installed pretty much everything on the car (diff struts, box, fuel system, brakes and everything in the bay except for the built long block ) I really hope I haven't overlooked something crucial but I guess time will tell.

One more one for you Jason in regards to engine mounts what are you using and/or have you modified them?
    Cheers, Alex

Wel in a ta22 I used factory rh 2t mount and bracket and cut the lh off the cross member and moved it 50mm outwards, re welded it and used the 3t mount I'm pretty sure, it could be the other way around for the mounts as I'm not too sure

My engine mounts are my own custom design using a pair of gnarly big polyurethane diff bushes. There did not seem to be any off the shelf uprated items available for the humble T series when I went looking.

2 for one deal - that also shows my own version of the cut down distributor for use as a crank angle sensor as per earlier thread discussion! I mounted the original magnetic sensor to the side and it is nice and compact with all the manifold clearance I need.

Yeah, see what you can find, there are lots of ways of doing this mod. You could run a 24 tooth and trigger wheel ike I did or you could run a toothed wheel on your crank and then a single trigger from a dizzy to locate TDC. A late model 2TG dizzy should have this trigger and I think it would be a direct fit in a 3TGTE besides having to cut away from of the mount on the head to make room for it. Maybe someone else can confirm this?
A spoke with Microtech a while ago when I was looking at options and they mentioned that virbration is sometimes a problem when mounted to the crank and recommended running off the cam, which is the way I went.
all 2tgeu 88260/261/262 have 4 tooth trigger wheel. ie tooth per spark event. same with 3tgte. nothing stopping you shaving off 3 and using it as a TDC trigger though.

agreed, genuine are good. but do not have fire rings! none of my genuine sets ever did anyway. if going aftermarket, i'd suggest fire rings though.
I know of a gasket maker over here that will do T series MLS exhaust gasket. but approx nz$80ea +shipping.

Gaskets getting hard to find now. Some still available from Toyota. Best bet is to buy an aftermarket 2TG set as its the same beside the cam cover. This is what I did but them sourced OEM for the exhaust gasket, front and rear crank seal and sump gasket as i personally dont think aftermarket is as good with those items....

Do you have a part number for it by chance? might be for another T series?
I now use the ACL bottom conversion set with no issues. Comes with cork sump seal, front/rear crank seals etc and waaay cheaper than oem. Just have to goo in a little piece of the front timing cover gasket due to the difference in pushrod/dohc. I cut my own intake manifold and timing inspection gaskets from paper.
And now can source ACL 2tgeu top end gasket set for a few interchangeable bits. They were hard to get for a while. Repco now stock them in NZ.
