I was about to ask what allencr just did.

Had you had the head retorqued? And exactly what pattern did they use?

Edit: Power jumping around can be the head lifting up.

When I write 'technique', I DO NOT MEAN PATTERN!!! Any azz can follow a pattern & go in steps, and any mechanic can make their own pattern that'll work just perfect. If they were unable to follow a pattern, they would be unable to even get to this forum, so I'd never ask that.

Generally you start from the middle of the head ie bolts between 2 and 3 and work your way out slowly tightening as to iron out any crinkles (for lack of better word), in the gasket.

i think what he meant by technique was did he back the bolts off then re torque or just re torque from where they were.

How many spark plugs are you firing? 4 or all 8?

Where were the AFR readings taken from? Tailpipe?

What fuel pressure reg are you using?

What is your fuel pressure at 100 kpa (Barometric)

What size injectors are you running?

    From memory cracked and retorqued
Presumably the AFR was taken from a tailpip probe
    All plugs, runny dizzy atm.
    Factory reg.
Found something in the car that looked like it was a fuel pressure log 6 to 10 bar, which seems high.
    440cc injectors

geeze you'd hope not, that is some massive rail pressure....

Just some things to think about.

Measuring AFR at the tailpipe is not reliable even though 98% workshops adopt this practice. In my opinion just because 98% do it doesn't mean this is the most accurate method in reading AFR. There is several reasons why this practice is undesirable. If you want me to go into detail I will. I would prefer if some of you here might offer some thoughts why this is not a good idea.

I asked how many plugs you where firing and you say all (I presume all 8). I know you are not using the factory Toyota ECM and would take a guess that you are probably firing both plugs in the same cylinder at the same time. This is very likely, to cause detonation as you are now producing two flame fronts in the same cylinder.

My own 3T-GTE engine which is 100% std fires 1 plug only per cylinder with 24 lbs boost producing 166 RWKW in a KE25 corolla. I recall someone who worked at Haltech who kept breaking pistons on his 3T-GTE also firing both plugs in the same cylinder. He was astonished to learn I was running 24 lbs on std pistons.

I run 4 x 750 cc injectors for petrol just to be on the safe side.

    Cheers
    Dick

okay its easy enough to unplug one ignitor to run only one plug per cylinder, but what are the implications of firing the mixture from one side of the chamber?

oh and does the factory management fire the other plug later? or is that done with the offset rotor button? if at all?

I have read that the mainline dynos (same as run was done on) don't use the conventional AFR sensor as other dynos... ie not the one that can be shoved in various spots to bodge dyno readings?

not that this is particularly useful info...

I know where he should have shoved his sensor!

The two plugs for each cylinder are positioned perfectly symmetrical in the cylinder head of the 3T-GTE engine. It would make no difference which one was fired to make the same power. The factory ECM fires the second plug several degrees later to aid pollution and hence avoiding potential detonation.

Yes I do too. In the front exhaust engine pipe ALWAYS before the cat and far enough away from the turbo exhaust heat so as not to damage the sensor. The question is how did you know.

You can use any O2 system you like actually, and position it wherever you like-tail pipe, dump, individual runner etc. (the bloke I use has a Motec O2 system on his mainline dyno)
