Default 3sgte block coolant inlet blocked - ideas?

    Howdy,

The coolant inlet on my block is blocked. I think because of bad coolant last time I had it running, and it either blocked up from dirt and crap that was going through it, or when I pulled the engine out the grime somehow crystalized? Anyhow here it is, before I go ahead and try anything to free it up I thought Id ask first in case there is any secrets of the trade I dont know about that could make my job alot easier. Im thinking of trying to drill a small hole in the middle and putting something through and try and pull it outwards. Dont want that crap in my galleries.

    Heres some pics.

    Picture 1:

There are two holes on picture one. One to the left, and one to the bottom of the welsh plug. This is the picture of the one on the left. The blocked one.

This is a picture of the hole below, this isnt blocked, but I wanted to ask what this is while Im at it. It goes through to a water gallery again from what I can see, is it an coolant outlet for something?

These pictures are from the back of the block also (under the intake manifold).

    Cheers!

they look like blind hole's, for a bracket or something...

if they were for coolant/oil they would have a smooth machined finish round the hole, ie like the welsch plug.....

but could be wrong....ive never played with a 3s....

Is it the inlet side of the motor?

The one under the welsh plug should be the coolant drain for the block

the one to the left I believe is meant to be blocked

This is a picture from a 3sgte rebuild that a guy did. Theres is a small plug that screws onto the block (where my one is blocked) and on the other side of that plug is where you put your hose onto. When I took my plug out when I stripped my engine is was also blocked like that hole in.

Any ideas in removing the blockage?

Howieau - sorry i'm a bit confused here.. Did you originally have a hose and a barb fitting in that hole??? My gen2 3sgte from an sw20 had that hose hooked up with a fitting in the block. Do gt4 engines not run that coolant line?or have you removed the hose fitting in that pic?

Drill it, poke it, blow it, wire brush it, coat hanger it or screwdriver it. From ALL directions possible. I's only some sediment.

If it's on the block, it's definitely an outlet if it has a block mounted waterpump, the block is pressurized.
If it's the same as the pic in http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=28465
of a 3SGTE, there's relatively cool coming out of the block going to the oil cooler, and then it goes to an inlet on WP's suction side. Not one of the engines most important working pieces. The lower one is probably just a drain.

Aust162 - the pic is with the fitting removed. Mine is meant to be hooked up the same as yours from your SW20.

allencr, I have no problems unblocking it, Im just worried about pushing it inside the block in the process and causing further troubles. Its pretty fkn hard so it wont just dissolve if it does fall inwards id assume. It could possibly block something up.

hit it with some crc gasket stripper, that shit will dissolve it no probs. turns hardened caked on gaskets to jelly instantly

OR get your screw driver/small pokey thing , and cover it in grease that way so when it breaks into bits, the majority is stuck to your pokey tool.
