Default Fresh 2tg hybrid no oil pressure at idle

    2tg has a 3tgte oil pump.

was freshly rebuild and hasnt seen the road yet.

just wondering if anyone has any solutions and/or ideas?

    cheers Preston

Is there any oil pressure at all ? what are you using to read the pressure with, factory gauge, or proper oil presure tester gauge ..( like ryco )

oil pressure comes up when you put your foot down.
    just nothing at idle
    just using a mechanical gauge.

There's a problem with the gauge, the relief valve, the bearings, some new/different plumbing thats been added/changed, or possibly but unlikely, the pump.
I'd assume that it is an assembly problem.

    I have no experience with 3tg pump -> 2tg.

i'd say a problem with the gauge. it was the same thing that happened to me but once i changed the gauge out it was ok.

    hope it helps some how.

You need to hook up an external Master oil pressure gauge & check what actual readings you have ..Other wise you could be looking for problems that aren't even there ... As i said before Ryco make a good one .. Available through most automotive outlet stores ..

when you put your foot down what readings do you get? I would also agree with the above statements, check how much oil you put in and compare with another pressure gauge your readings. BTW thats good to hear another 2T-G/3T hybrid is born.

    Preston,

If the engine is not rattling at idle at this stage then the engine is fairly safe.

There are several things as mentioned above that relate to the actual build, but if you're confidant that the bearing clearances are set up, all the old cam bearing shells, if a 2T/3T based block, have been aligned corectly (the last three turned to block the oil galleries) and the rest of the build is ok then here are some questions to think about.

When you say no oil pressure, is that what you see on the guage?

Does the engine start and the oil light go out?

What is the idle speed at the moment?

Once the engine is running and you increase the revs from idle when do you read something?

When it drops back to idle does the engine rattle or the oil light come on? The rattle resulting from the chain tensioners not building up enough oil to take the slack out of the chains.

Where do you have the oil guage plumbed to?

If there was no oil pressure at all the light would be on and the engine rattling its chains.

A sign of a working oil pump and bypass valve is that the oil pressure increases with revs to a point, drops back a bit as the bypass opens and then continues back up.

As said by previous replys, the guage maybe out of calibration compared to the oil light. The oil light, as long as it goes out at start up means you have some oil flowing around regardless of the actual real pressure at idle. In fact if we know what the oil light switch is set at then we know roughly what the pressure is at start up. Anyone know?

    Regards

    Rodger

the oil pressure goes up to like 30 psi at about 4000rpm.

haven't revved it any further as its rebuilt.

according to river the oil pressure should be more than 1.1 psi at idle.
    Oil pressure @ 2000rpm should be 3.5 - 4.6kg/cm2 (49.8 - 64.0 psi)
    Oil pressure @ 5000rpm should be 4.0 - 5.0kg/cm2 (56.9 - 71.1psi)

rodger the oil light goes out on cold start up. just wen it gets hotter the light stays off at idle which is about 1000rpm. but if you rev it the light goes off at like 1500rpm.

and yeah there does seem to a bit of noise from the chains.

A reply to a previous question about oil pressure light switches most are set so the light goes off at 4psi & above,if your light is coming on & the gauge reads zero its time to start doing some checking, before you destroy one fresh motor ...I would personally start with the oil pump, check clearances, mating surfaces & gaskets, oil pressure releif & continue on from there ... Whats the difference, with a 3tgte oil pump, are all the galleries etc the same. maybe even just bolt on a good 2tg oil pump & see how good that works ...

the oil pressure at start up is good.

but as soon as the temp comes up to operating temp the oil pressure is no where near what it should be!

i know as the oil thins out the pressure will come down but not as much as it is.

the pressure wont go above 20psi. so something is fukd.

Guessing the hybrid is 3t block with 2tg head, as some one suggested are the 3 rear cam bearings turned to stop oil flow into fresh air? If this is O.K then there must be excessive clearance some were else. That is if the bypass valve hasn't got stuck I have had this happen to my 3tg had to polish valve and bore (valve should fall out of pump under it's own weight).
The excessive clearance could be incorrect bearings e.g. std bearings .010" under crank. if so big ends will knock but mains probably be hard to pick over chain noise because no oil pressure to tensioner.

Hope this is of help. Looks like engine out, which would be best just make sure there is no damage. Cheers.
