Where the outside of the tyre sits has nothing to do with bearing weight distrubution/track.
Its the centre line of the tyre that matters.

According to bbaacchhyy its standard practice.
My brake guy said its doable too.

I know it has nothing to do with track, but thought there was more to do with bearing load that just offset alone. I'm taking my baseline from the +8 supra rims too, not the +25 or whatever the 5.5" rims are.

As for what to consider as the correct baseline...xA6xs with identical susp came with 3 different wheel sizes offsets! It doesn't matter, I'm sure it'll be fine.

It wouldn't surprise me if some early ones came with 5" rims and +32 offset too.

I would have thought bearing load was purely based on offset (assuming 0 camber and stationary car on flat surface).
Obviously with -ve camber the load per bearing changes.

So, what are the obvious advantages to those of us who undertook the nissan front brake (z31) upgrade? smaller discs and callipers at rear for extra effort it sounds like.....

The R/Z32 rear calipers may have less surface area, but they are twinspots.

The dics are much bigger than stock xA6x!

ok, but does that answer my question or make it worth the upgrade?

them being twin spots does not make them magically better.. less surface area is still a problem.
and as for larger discs... when was the last time anyone experienced brake fade or warping on their rear discs?

I've said this several times before - I believe that upgrading the rear brakes on an MA61/MX73 is a waste of time unless you're building an actual race car (not a weekend racer). I doubt that many people punish their brakes as harshly as I do, and I've never had anything resembling brake fade since I upgraded the fronts. The rears are holding up just fine, no matter what I throw at them - and this often includes high-speed runs through Mt Nebo and Mt Glorious, which means I'm constantly leaning on the brakes for up to 30 minutes at a stretch! It's pretty hard to imagine an activity more likely to show up any deficiencies in your braking system.

In regards to bearing loads, has calulations etc. A decent read.

Thats quite good info, in all seriousness if I had understood that there was an enjoyable end to learning stuff like that I would have been several levels higher in maths !!

Im surprised that they are that simple (even though I dont understand them) for the information that they give.

so a pair of these calipers arrived in the mail today

they are big bastards, around 3.5kg each or a little more.... roughly 15x22cm..

are there any docs around showing exact measurments of these calipers?

now that i have them, i was thinking of making up some engineerign type drawings with dimensions etc.. but if it's already been done, i have no need

they also look pretty easy to machine doen to fit a smaller disc

are they overkill on an 800kg car? maybe
