Love you work!, especially those pistons @ T.D.C.
What are the specs of your 2T-G now?
Also have you checked you welsh plugs? as when i did my rebuild they where at their limit with corrosion.

The plugs are indeed brand new. Unfortunately they were installed prior to the block being painted so they arent visible as being shiney brass.

The engine has a 4mm overbore and a 3T crank, taking it out to near on 2L. I havnt calculated the final compression ratio, but it should be about 12:1.

It's a shame you can't get avgas over the counter any more, but i guess most servos have 98 octane premium these days.

The bottom end has been built with tight tolerances and will be run on a 5w50 fully synthetic oil.

I intend on having it tuned to run on BP Ultimate 98 octane fuel.

Awesome work on the engine - progress looks great

    > one thing i would change is the K & N filters. From my experience they arent that great and the housings crack after a while with the slightest of vibration in the engine. Plus they come within millimetres of the brake booster on a TA22 with the setup you have.

I went for small trumpets with filter socks on them - great sound and improved performance over the K & N's

I have a strong dislike of filter socks - they do a poor job of filtering and are a fire hazard.

As this setup came out of the TA22 in the first place I know it will fit with the K&N filters.

The pistons are wiseco and worked out at about $600 for the set.

The engine's looking really good, Starfire.

I have a very similar hybrid (except with more aggressive cams from what I can see).
I used to run it on BP Ultimate however sometime last year the quality of the fuel seemed to drop.
I switched over to Caltex Vortex 98 and haven't looked back.

I dunno if the fuel might be different over in SA or if BP Ultimate is better quality again.

    Either way, fuel for thought.

    Intersting thread Starfire!

I pulled down my 2tgue last night and I am sending the head off tomorrow for a rebuild. I rang 4 or so places and have been qouted $350-500 so very similar to yourself. I will go in and see a couple of the places and get them to have a look.

I was wondering who painted your rocker cover and who you used for the bottom end? Do you have aby of the torque sttings for the 2tgue? I am only doing a basic rebuild to freshen up the engine.

    Cheers, Pete

He painted the cam cover himself, then rubbed back the lettering with a block and fine wet & dry (1200?). The bottom end was done by Chris Milton, looks like they have done a very good job, but they aren't cheap.

Yeah it does look very nice but I have a budget to stick to so we will be assembling the bottom end outselves.

I checked the bottom end and it seems in good order and it had all the standars bearings etc so I think this is the first time it has been cracked open.

Very nice engine... Im in the process of building my 2tg, I ordered new pistons(std) and when putting the head on, it sat up about 3mm when at TDC with valves closed on no:1

I went back and asked the guy about the pistons, he said they were std for the 2t bottom end. Does anybody know if they are the same pistons?

They looked more like the high comp pistons on page 2.
    Thanks
    Blake
