    I'm about to make a tacho booster's to suit my N/A GZ20 soarer now running a 1JZ from a JZA70.

Im pretty confident on how to put it together i just have one question - WHAT DOES IT WIRE UP TO!!!

Does it splice into the back of the igniter plug?
    Is this picture correct?

    I noticed coff33 said this on page 2 -

" I just want to add to this thread for the next person that reads it.
The wire your looking for running to the dash if you have an MA61/MZ11/MZ10 etc.
Is located in the DRIVERS SIDE kick panel.
Its a black wire with no dots/lines. Very skinny and plugged into the drivers kick panel fuse box next to a WHITE with BLACK STRIPE wire.
IF you connect the "out -> to tacho" wire from your booster , to this black wire. your digital dash will work.
Thanks in advance, any help with be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

I had a go building one of these today and it does absolutely nothing
    VVTI 1JZ from JZX100 in MA70 Supra.
The only thing I'm not sure on in all the diagrams is how the igniter, transistor and tach connect.
Do you just splice the output from the coil into the output from the transistor and put that into that tach?
Thats what all the diagrams suggest and thats what I did however in the original post it says:

"The diode is linked to one end of the coil, then the other end to the resistor, which is joined to the transistor. The transistor is then linked to the other end of the coil with short piece of shielded wire."

Which is not what the diagram says at all, I'm very confused.
What I have looks pretty much the same as what Mustard has.
I have confirmed I have the right source from the igniter, definitely have ignition 12V going into coil and am very sure its going to the right wire for the tach but nothing happens.
I don't even think the relay is clicking but it works when I tested it by itself.

Are you sure you need a tacho booster on the MA70?

Mine needed a square wave for the tacho signal.

It had a working tacho with the 7m in it and now it doesn't have a working tach with the 1JZ.
But now I think about it the 7M used coils and would have gotten its tach signal from its own ignitor.
I know there is a difference between the 7M and 7M-GTE tachos that causes it to be innacurate without further mods but it just doesn't read at all.
I got super excited when I saw this tacho booster and thought that was the answer, maybe I've been barking up the wrong tree.

If it's not working at all, might be something else wrong.

Double check the wiring and make sure it's hooked up correctly and that there's a connection from the ignitor to the dash.

I figured it out, its working now
I swapped the resistors on the tacho circuit board to match a 7M-GTE which is very close to a JZA71 as well as per http://www.autosoftsys.com/supra/tachcompare/

Thanks heaps to Witzl, I've built two of these now - on years ago for an SR20DET KE70 that I could not get to operate, but just now I installed it into my 1UZFE Volvo 240 and works perfectly, chuffed!

I would improve the diagram shown on the 1st page of this thread
Any coil should be clamped with a diode, otherwise voltage overshoot generated during switch on/off will destroy the transistor eventually

I've fixed the photo links by transferring the photos Photobucket was blocking, to my TinyPic account.

Hope this helps a little bit for this mod.

After all these years its heartening to see the thread is still alive!

Hey, we just bought the VW/Audie relay and hooked it up as per instructions but it didn't work. I was hoping you might be able to give me some advice. We are running a 3sge in an RA40.

The 3sge signal (from what I can ascertain) comes out of the ECU and into a MPX and then on to the dash. I assume the MPX is some sort of signal interface between the ECU and dash.

Alternatively, is there an alternate way to aquire a signal that will trigger an RA40 taco. Someone suggested you can take a puls off an alternator.
