Engine Stopped while running! Help!! 22R

For those that havent seen it.

Well i was on my way home Wednesday Night, left work late as was working back trying to catch up on some stuff. Started the car, got out of work and 100m down the rd.

Suddenly nothing.

Battery light was on, as tho the car had stalled.

Swore, hit the key, clink.
tried again
clink.
hit the hazards, got out, checked the battery, all good. tried again. clink.

pushed it to the side of the rd, went to the ford dealership across the rd, tried a jump start pack.

Clink.

Pushed it into the dealership, called the RAA. They asked if the ford guys had worked on it. I nearly laughed.. Im not letting ford techs near my car

The RAA Guy got a ring spanner onto the main bolt in the engine and couldnt turn it. Not even 1mm.

tried the car in 4th gear and rocked it. nothing.

Tow truck home for me.

Moving on from there, i decided to pull the main covers off to see what i could find.
Removed the Rocker Cover, and found nothing looking to shabby.

Removed the Sump (2 hours of swearing later) and still nothing looking bad!!

I was wondering if anyone who knows slightly more about engines could have a look, and let me know what they think about it.

put the engine on a stand and pull the main bearing caps off and have a look see

I'm not sure if u can take off to inspect while still in the car hopefully someone else can answer that

has the motor seized? have you tried turning the motor over by using the large bolt on the harmonic balancer? try using the process of elimination before you strip the motor down.
If you can rotate the crank by using the harmonic balancer bolt, (not seized)
Try this and then let me know the results

Nothing, cant move it.

Nope, nothing, ive had so many people asking me this question! there was nothing... i had just dropped back to second doing about 30-40km/hr, and it died...

Is the car a manual? When the engine died did it lock up the rear end?

Nah nothing unusual, was just like it stalled.

Can still roll the car in neutral, all the gear selectors are fine, starter motor isnt jammed, removed the plugs and its not full of water.

there was no bangs, rattles, unusual noises, etc coming from the car when it died.

It was exactly like it had stalled.

I'm assuming that when it stalled/stopped running you were in gear. So assuming you were in gear did it keep rolling or like mentioned above did it lock up the rear end?

So far it sounds like a seized motor

was still rolling.

Seized motor is about what im getting the impression from with everyone i talk to.

Oil level was low, but not extremely bad, was really nothing unusual going on.

where would it seize?

Hi,

Bearings would seize if they weren't getting enough oil.

Surely there would be some kind of noise then though?

It was running quiet with no hassles

my money would be on snapped timing chain bunched up at bottom of timing cover
pull off the rocker cover and see if the chain is still on your cam gear

If you check the pics, the timing chain is sitting nicely where its supposed to be.

Sump is off and the rocker cover is off as well.

Thats what i was hoping for though Ecotech.

Unfortunately no suck luck

When you say the starter motor isnt jambed.. ...Did you pull it out? Then try turning the motor?

Is it possible you could remove the gearbox easily? Maybe the input shaft is jambed / broken?

Last resort something has seized in the 22R.

Starter is as far our as i could get it. Couldnt get into the top bolt. But sitting where it is, it moves freely, nothing like its stuck in there.

Its never easy to get a gearbox out

I could try though and see how i go. Ill wait till after the mecanic gets here and has a look though.
