    Default hilux diff models.....which one?

Im looking to do the hilux conversion into my cortina.

Now i like to go with 3.9:1 ratio LSD. Id also like a disc brake rear if possible?

I dont really have any ideas on the hilux diff appart from their known strength.

So is there anything out their suiting my needs and if so what model hilux am i looking for ?

IE what series. Im guessig fairly late for discs ?

    hey man,
myne is from a rn41 from early 80's hilux 1410mm hub face to hub face and theres a 1375mm and 1440 acutuly theres a few hehe.
with the disk brakes with some modification supra jza/ma70 rear brakes go on look in conversion's its all in there.
there plenty of ratios 3.9:1 im pretty shaw you can get with the lsd youll just go buy aftermarket theres plenty out there.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

The length doesnt matter that much as it will have to be cut down any how.

Aftermarket LSD? ........ Any factory ones?

Any difference in strength between the earlier ones (80's) and later ones (90's onwards) ?

They do come with factory LSD's, im not sure what ratios they come in. But they are as rare as hens teeth... CVAP have them, but in limited ratio's...

If its going in a cortina, surely there is a holden or ford option for you that would be easier, cheaper and posibly better. Or atleast better for your application...

I just assume that a cortina is wider so there are more diffs available for ya...

    Cheers,
    Jase

EDIT: If length doesnt matter anyway, wouldnt a later model commodore or ford diff be cheaper, easier to come by, and already have disks?

the mx83 cressida grande auto and the ma70 supra manual non turbo is a 3.9 LSD but its irs, and to swap the gearset and centre over into the hilux case and to have it set up will cost about $400.
Hilux lsds are obviously the way to go if you can get over the fact they are 4.1 or lower....

aftermarket lsds - theres farking heaps!

ratios vary from 3.7 in a supra turbo manual to a 4.89 in a hilux diesel.

yeah good point about the ford option etc etc.

I just heard of the hilux strength and thought that mabe a good option.

Id like to go with a banjo type for ease of change should something break.

If i went with a 9 inch , id atleast have to go with a alloy carrier to save some weight.

I dont think my wallet likes this apporach.

    Hi mate
I swapped a RN25-27 Hilux diff into my TA22 Celica. They are 1370mm hub face to hub face. I went with the shorted approach but was only able to shorten the axles a little because of the limited spline on the axles. Obviously if you wanted to respline them you could shorten as much as you want. I went with a AE86 rear caliper and rotor setup. There are plenty of other options out there including R31 Skyline and MA70 setups.
Diffs are tuff as, weigh far less than a 9" and have plenty of ratios and centres available. LSD's are plentiful! There is a Toyota wrecker in SA that has a heap of these diffs which are becoming hard to find as they are the earlier shorter model.

If you need anymore info let me know

Hey dude, was looking at THIS and if mk1 and mk2 rear ends are the same or relatively similar, they say, if you can put up with a salisbury style diff, then the commodore borg warner is a good option... Easy to find, easy to get parts for etc... And already have disk rear end...

    Just another idea,
