Default Is 2JZGTE Waste Spark Ingition?

    HI Gents...

I'm trying to work out WTF why e-manage won't run the timing on the 2jz properly. I've wired it up with one channel to each timing wire on the ECU in the correct firing order...

The only thing I can come up with is that the 2JZGTE's run wasted spark and I've wired it incorrectly...

I've even tried a second unit to see if the unit was defective and got the same problem...

2jzgte's are direct fire, e.g. 1 coil per cyl

i thought they were like 1JZ - 6 coil drivers in the igniter-box but only 3 ignition channels from the ECU each driving two igniters/coils (e.g. waste-spark CoP)?

Direct fire can be either waste of normal spark I thought?

They are COP, but appear to have 6 channels out of the ECU feeding the ignitor which has 6 outputs, one per coil.

This doesn't mean they are run in sequential mode necessarily though...

I'm having issues getting my e-manage to run the ignition side of the engine. so the only thing I could come up with was it should be waste spark rather then 6 indivdual wires.

Is your e-manage compatible with the style of signal coming from the 2JZ?? Is it a hall effect, reluctor, optical etc type??

i have seen 2j coils and they plug onto the spark plug and then have a lead to the next plug

so i was under the impression they are waste spark

maybe some are waste some are direct

but if you pull cover of coils and see how many u have

    take u 10 mins

2j is reluctor like all j engines

wasted spark can be seen by having the doubleup type coil packs (VN commo, EF Foulcan) where there is one input, 2 outputs... basically look like two coils moulded together.

Hi, BEWARE the 2 wires from the cam angle sensors and crank angle sensors are polarity sensitive at least on 1J's 2JZGTE???????????? crownman.0412 711 481.

on a 2j its not double ended coil
coil sits ontop one plug and then theres a lead from side of coil goin to next plug

I have never seen a 2JZGTE without 6 coils - some Toyota engines (e.g. 1MZ) do run 3 coils on plugs, with a lead going to the other plug, but I certainly haven't seen this on a JZ turbo engine.

im sure ive seen it on a 2j or a 1j vvti

it was def a 6 cyl inline toyota engine

i did a vvti 1j the other day and it had a small ignitor with 3 wires in and 3 out

and im sure i did a vvti 2j with similar ignitor

as i mentioned earlier, it's probably CoP in waste-spark mode (e.g. 2 coil packs fire together). The 1JZGTE is.

Waste-spark doesn't need a dual-tower coil-packs - it just means two cyls which are 360 degrees apart in cam timing fire at the same time.

    Thanks guys...

I really didn't get much from all that so far...

Both my 2jz's have 6 COP and a 6 channel ignitor. I'll have to get the CRO out and run a comparision between say IG1 and IG5 in order to see if they are firing togeter etc.

If they are, then in fact the wriing will not be correct as there are indiviudal drivers and ignitor channels for each coil, so they won't be 'hardwire' paired anywhere in the system and hence why the engine will be missing.

I've seen relatively good success with e-manages on 2jz's so am not worried about this side of it. However these have been on Supra's with supras ECU's not the ARISTO ECU I have...

I'll try my spare ignitor this afternoon and maybe even throw the CRO on to compare outputs.

Will keep posted as this seems a bit of an unknown atm.

BTW the e-manage doesn't use pick ups to drive anything, it merely goes inline with the ignitor feed wires from the ECU to add and remove timing, so no interfaces with reluctor/hall etc are required.

Oh and SAFC can't offer 16x16 ,maps nor ignition timing

I've had problems with toyota engines talking to ECU's because of the crappy output signal they put out of their triggers.

I'd be saying that the output from the engine's sensors is not up to scratch for your ECU...
