    Default Ke70 and Ae86 springs

Ok so i got a set of lowered front 86 springs laying around and was wonderin if they will fit into stock KE70 struts.

Ive heard they dont fit however i went to measure them up and they seemed simalar sized (within 1 cm or so) so before i went and took everything apart i thought i would ask.
and if they dont fit exactly what if anything besides replace the lot can be done to make them fit weather its dodgy or not..

    Thanks

define basiclly, as i am lead to believe they are simuler but not the same. unless you have tried this yourself it could be the wrong infomation.

i.e front aftermarket strut for KE70 will NOT fit AE86 and vice versa, the circumfrence of the AE86 strut is about 3 to 5mm bigger.

there could be the same sort of problems with the springs.

i'm not sure about the springs but i dont want you to go fitting them up and then relizing they are unsafe to use.

i sell TRD parts, have sold many many TRD ae86 springs for KE70s. no issues.
and inserts are interchangable between the two.

    nope, ke70.

ae85, ae86 and ke70 struts are all very very similar
they are interchangable and in some cases they all share the same p/n
    eg ke70 1983 has same p/n as ae85/6 83-85.

ae70 is also the same as above

of course there is the old sub model that has a different part number, but anything as small as an extra hole will dictate that.

as I understand it - from the factory (in Australia anyway):

    REAR
KE70 sedan, AE71sedan, AE86 all share the same rear spring and damper
KE70 wagon, AE71 wagon have leaf sprung rear

    FRONT
some KE70 and AE71 have the same front spring as AE86 - these springs have a reduction in diameter of the bottom-most coil.
Most KE70 and AE71 have different front spring from AE86 - these springs have the same diameter coils from top to bottom.

There is some anecdotal evidence (I have never actually tried to follow it up) that the wagons use the strut with the AE86 spring.

The predominant (ie. not AE86 spring) KE70 and AE71 strut inserts have a smaller diameter than the AE86 - but I don't know about the KE70/AE71 struts that use the AE86 spring.
Wagons also have a bigger brake disk
    - sedan: 218
    - KE70 wagon: 228
    - AE71 wagon (and AE86): 234

One of the members of rollaclub has posted some spring part tnumbers in this thread:http://www.rollaclub.com/board/index...howtopic=12068

so - if your KE70 has the smaller bottom coil on the spring, then the AE86 spring will most likely fit (does it have a smaller coil on the bottom?).

    Hope that helps!

simple solution, buy AE86 struts or sell the springs you have and buy the right ones.
I hope the springs you have fit cos thats the only easy way out.

    spot on slapper!
when compared standard ke70 springs to ae86 ones the taper in is very obvious.
wish i took a photo when a supplier gave me the wrong part, but in most cases, ke70 front springs does not equal ae86 front springs.

same with dampers, ae86 are a larger diameter
