    Default 2tgue & 3tgtue info

    Hi,

I have a 2tgue well i know the head is but am unsure about block. How can i be sure if i have an original 2tgue block. Various numbers on the block?

Secondly if i was to convert to a 3tgtue do they bolt straight in like the 2gtue. Could the original diff and brakes be strong enough to handle 3tgtue. If not what sort of replacment parts would you recommend.

    cheers

    Why?
If you gonna do a engine swap y not go a 4AGE (GZE if you want FI)
the T series are getting old and parts are getting harder to find

The "t" series engines have a distinctive sound, maybe he wants to keep that. And then there's that whole old school charm they have...

    Yes,
But marcus. over boost = broken T series parts which i could have used,
    Nah seriously now,
If you want forced induction your chassing HP a old 3TGTE dont make great power for a turboed engine when a midly worked 4A can and will do it more reliably and also if it does fail parts can be had quickly and easily.

Chippa whats your reasoning for going to a 3TGTE?

Dude did you bump your head or get a labotomy over Xmas ?? I am at work now but will check this thread tonight.

The 3TGTE will "almost" bolt in. Turbo oil drain requires attention (See Jason - aka YelloRolla) The 3TGTE is a lack luster performer in stock trim but with the $$$ you would spend build a 4AGTE you can build a very sweet 3TGTE.

    Both!
yes the 3TGTE will slot in but for the cost of parts and such i recon its worth it.
i mean it cost over 500 dollars to get new chain sliders and chains

Id have to agree mate,if it wasnt for originally buying my car with a 3tgte already in it I would definately go 4AGZ/TE. Parts and cheap upgrades etc are easliy had.But I really dont rate the NA version, they sound fast and a quite rev happy but there is about asmuch torque in them as Mr Burns hand when trying to crush a paper cup

If you have the coin go 3sgte.

Yep sure did,If i was going to have a na 1600 in my Celica I would prefer the 2TG for the old skool charm,as both make fuck all power in my opinion so why not just keep it more true to its era,but meh I dont and in actual fact would prefer a 3SGTE over all engines when it comes to my Celica.

mate the 2tg is an excellent motor for n/a setups but for blown application they are just no good. my mates got gemini with the 3tgteu and hes got a hi flow turbo and an aftermarket computer etc etc and that thing he just cant get to run good hp. 2tg perfect for webbers or any other high revving setup but they arnt really the best for turbs. i personally was going to go a turboed 4agze setup but ive stuck with the 2tg coz they bolt straight in and they look good in the engine bay with some webers. but as far as parts go the only place i can go to find forged pistons for the 2tg is in the states and i was looking at about 1400 dollars all up.

    thanks guys

reason for the thought about a 3tgteu is that i had a suspicion they bolted straight in. The cost and rearness of parts is an issue also. What about brakes would the standard ta22 brakes be able to with stand the 3tgtue. I have a 2tgue at the moment. Only problem is im not sure if the bottom end is the proper block or some cheap shit block. How can i tell and what do the 2tgue go like.

    cheers fellas

you're not looking hard enough then. as for the statement that they are no good for blown application, well, it takes more than an aftermarket ecu to get good hp. i suppose it depends on how much hp you want. remember the t series engine is pretty old, and it's only 8 valve. you can't just bolt a turbo onto a 2tg, dump some forgies in it and think you are going to get 300hp. it all comes down to how smart you build the engine, and how much you want to spend.
