Question How to start first time every time?

    Hey guys,
It's the Corona XT130 yet again. The good news it now runs.............And moves. Next question is what can I do to ensure it starts first time every time, as it will be by daily to work and I would rather not look like a tool turning over the engine 5 times before it kicks.

So is it an easy carburettor tune fix?

    or

    New:
    Fuel pump?
    Starter motor?
    Distributor?
    etc

    or

"can't be done, your car is too frikkin old and this is what old cars do."

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Replace whatever is stuffed is always a good start... If the carb and ignition are in reasonable order, it should always go.

It is a mechanical fuel pump and I do this, but if I miss starting it on the first time it almost seems harder to start on the next couple of turns. I don't keep pumping either as I don't want to flood it.

if she floods, hold the pedal flat and crank, when it coughs let off and maybe crank once more... usually comes right (smells included!)

I don't and that was going to be one of my next questions, I can be an absolute noob in a lot of areas anyone know of an electric ignition that would be suitable. It's a starfire 1892cc engine.

A lot of the older cars have weak ballast resistors.
An easy fix, aside from getting a new ballast resistor, is using a relay to bypass it during cranking.
You can troubleshoot this easily in about 2 mins by running a wire across the ballast resistor to bypass it.
If it starts easier, odds are that that's the problem.
Relay is pretty simple. You just rig it so that when the starter cranks, the relay gets switched on, allowing a simple short from one end of the ballast resistor to the other.
20mins, 5$ relay, bit of wire, and someone that knows how relays work and you're done.

    carbie cleaner.. lots of it...

clean out ur distributor cap if u've got one. new contact points, leads, plugs, and of course a good tune .. and yea i pump the gas pedal twice b4 i start.. and on the old 4A-C it turns over 2, max 3 times b4 starting right up.. sputtering a bit, then high idle for the warm up, all on its own..

but i must say, different cars have different tricks to get that one kick start.. and yea normally if i miss that first kick, i'd just hold down 1/4 pedal and start... might take a bit longer but start up the same in the end

I'm going to do a bit of digging around in the engine bay this afternoon and see what can be done the easiest, in the end though I'll probably just use most suggestions and hope it fixes the problem without really knowing what it is
