sorry to bring back an old thread but I am thinking of rewiring my car.

I have already got a microtech ecu with its own loom. The only things that are connected to the stock loom is the air and water temp sensors, cam and crank angle sensors so I would have to redo these.

Then if I was to get one of those 2 in and 10 out fuse boxes like Sideshow was talking about that would be helpful.

I figure the only other things I need to worry about are alternator, starter motor, guages, head lights, indicators, brake lights and reverse lights. Doesn't sound that hard to do.

I currently have a huge mess of wiring as it has the WHOLE jzx81 chaser loom in my car and about 2% of it is used.

I intend on ditching the chaser dash and running a microtech dash.

Car will not be a street car when this is done.

So where can I get these good quality fuse boxes?

I emailed castle auto about getting assorted wires from them.

    Thanks

    Chris

there is an auto electrical supply store on moss st at slacks creek, it is down the end (past autobarn) right on the corner with the service road along the M1 (left side corner as u come down the hill on moss st towards the service road). they are open on saturdays too, they sell anything and everything (about 3 types of each too) to do with automotive wiring

good luck wiring is a good wholesome job, just take your time and make sure its all right before u move to the next step and you will do fine

chris: are you going to abandon any hope of steet rego? if not, then dont forget wipers, demister fan & hazard flasher

also - to add to you 'basics' list: dash/interior lights, tail/park lights, idoit lights for oil-pressure/coolant/park-brake/line-lock/fuel-pressure

jezza: don't suppose you know the name?

Charles: of the top part of your list I only have the wipers at the moment. I get sick of these legalities BS and I just want the things that I need.

Dash lights are in microtech dash.
tail lights was meant to be included with head lights
no idiot lights, just my auto temp guage, oil pressure guage and wideband o2.

Have switches for head lights, high beams, line lock, nitrous and 2 step. I think that is it. Probably forgotten something though.

I figure if I go over the few wires that I will need for the body stuff and work out what they are currently connected to and label them. Then rip out the dash and all that wiring and take all the wiring off the inlet manifold (which currently goes nowhere ) and then start a fresh with new wires from a fuse block. Shouldn't be "that" hard hopefully. (famous last words)

fwiw: this is how i was going to wire up the MZ10:
-battery in boot to isolation switch in front of gear stick
-isolation switch to fuse/relay panel above it and to alternator
    -fuse/relay panel to various devices

given that i want to register the car, some existing switches will be used (lights, indicators, wipers) but everything else will run from a center panel.

Engine and other control boxes (e.g. wiper control) will live where the govebox was

The only remote relay might be for headlights and spotlights - this will cut down amount of H/Duty wire running from relays in the cabin to the front of the car.

Given how long it's taken to rewire most of Rod's wagon and the 22, I'd have no hesitation to start at $2k for anyone who would want that. It's simply too time consuming when done with factory finish and a technical approach in mind (rather than the factory cost-benefit approach).
If anyone wants more detail, feel free to ask but be prepared for a late answer.

Would it be worth it though to conceal the wiring becuase if there was a problem with it, it would be even more of a bitch to find and fix the problem.

    Chris - you're in luck!

I have a 2 in, 10 out blade fuse box sitting here that I was going to put into the old ma61, but never got around to. I'd be happy to sell it off. pm me (still in packaging, etc etc)

edit: made by "nightvision", if that means anything

Nightvision is a brand owned by REPCO, haven't had too much experience with the quality but it looks alright.
