TA22 + rack and pinion

Couldn't just swap steering arms side to side and flip to be front facing?

I thought about swapping the arms. Main problem with that is the lower ball joint and tie rod end taper is upside down. Which is why I suggested custom making steering arms. Also thought of machining tapered bushes and drilling/ reaming original tapers out to straight holes that's when realised it would be just as easy to make new ones.
Another advantage of front mount rack is reducing steering column/ link angle which seems to be a problem on current conversions.

I looked at using Mk1 Escort rack since quick racks are readily available from UK. Only problem is they mount front of crossmember hence rotate wrong direction. Unless someone wishes to modify crossmember and sump on front dished engines then make/buy steering arms.

could you not buy a LHD rack for an escort and flip it? should but steering connection on correct side and act like a rear steer rack. anything else im not considering?

That is a high possibility of working. Only thing I can see is it would need to be a Mk2 rack due to metric tapers on tie rod ends, there is though no guarantee the Toyota and Escort tapers are the same but easier to ream to matching taper than making new arms.
Good call on thinking the idea.
