few questions regarding seting up my 4agte oil supply to the turbo,
- regarding the oil drain off the turbo into the sump what would be the recommended sizing of the ose to be used? im thinking bigger the better and something around 18mm would be good? and returning it as high into the sump as possible, i believe the standard return point for the oil cooler which is about 12mm is to small?
- turbo's oil feed will be from the mounting block on an oil cooler relocator i believe this is ok i think the ports re around 3/8" or something like that.
with the oil feed to the turbo youll need a restrictor to about 2mm if the turbo doesnt have one already, is the turbo ball bearing ? i run my feed straight off the engine (i dont use an oil cooler) as long as you get full oil pressure youll be right but id rather tee it off from the motor.
and yeh your right with the return, i use 5/8's hose which is about 16mm, with matching fittings and as high as you can go (you dont want the oil in the sump to prevent flow)
i dont have a funny or cool signature.
yeh thats what i thought, just wasnt too sure as this is my first crack at a 4agte, didnt wanna screw up lolz, and the turbo has a restrictor in it already it'd be around 2mm yeh...
thanks for your input.
Just some more feedback for you.
I've been running a 19mm drain into the sump for a long time now, it's a 45 degree bend with a dash end. I found that worked a lot better than my previous fitting that entered at horizontally as oil was pooling in the bottom of that on hard right hand turns.
Key is to have it as high in the sump as possible, do some googling on the subject and you'll find many stories of smokey oil burning 4AGTEs because people didn't get the drain right.
As for the oil feed, I ran it straight from the block up until late last year when I took the feed from the sandwich plate on the remote filter block. Either one will work fine, pressure is the same at both points.
I'd recommend an inline oil filter for the turbo oil feed line too, a worth while investment if your turbo is worth more than a couple of $$

yeh thanks heaps guys, will be getting the manifold flange cut off and a t25 welded on as too keep the turbo up as high as possible so can get a decent drain setup off the turbo, and will def get a 45 degree bend straight off the sump so no oil pooling can really occur.
will be doing that lolz, anyone recommend any workshops that work along the lines of stainless intercooler piping, welding a fitting into the sump for the drain line, oil feed line ect ect
