Electric Window not working

the rear elft window on my car refuses to work. Luckily it was in the up position when this happened.

It did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, so I dismantled everything, found the glass would move, so that wasn't the problem.
I dismantled the electric motor & found I could wind the window up & down by hand, so figured that couldn't be the problem.
The electrics are working fine. ie the is current at the motor terminals whenever either of the 2 switches are pressed (one on the door & master on the driver's door).

I do remember when it was working that there was like a sucking noise whenever you fist tried to open the window like the glass or something was stuck & then let go.
I think that this is the problem & the motor doesn't have the grunt to overcome it anymore.

tried applying 12v to the motor?.. how stiff is the window to wind by hand?

apply some sort of lubricant to the rubbers where the window gets stuck, to help it release.

the first time I did 12v directly to the motor, it didn't work, but later did.

Winding by hand is extremely easy, but its geared down a lot. Problem is that the head of the motor is actually part fo the winder mechanism, so replacing it is going to be very expensive.

i think its getting tired. if all the wiring is good and consistant. and the mechanism goes when it feels like id be calling the motor as the culprit. they have a great habit of going in mums fairmont ghia.
should be able to get the parts off the wreckers.

i had the same problem in my vp calais...probably unrelated to your issue, but it was just a worn switch for the window...common problem with them.

Dude, when was the last time you saw a Caldina at the wreckers? Or even the more common sedan brother, a FWD Corona.
Though there is a chance the camry stuff may the same.

Fair call, though you can see a bit of my dilemma now, & why I'd rather find a repair instead of replacement.

i had this same problem in my celica, seemed water had leaked through the door onto the motor and made it short circuit and unable to be used, think it required a replacement motor ? also wasnt to easy to tell either.

There was a fwd corona at pick n payless last time i was there.

I actually pulled the motor aprat so I could wind the window manually. Cleaned the contacts while I was at it.

Did the Corona look similar to mine (ie front panels & doors) or was it squarer? There were 2 FWD model Coronas between the last of the RWD ones we got & mine from around 92ish.

I really cant remember. Its sorta looks like a sedan AE101 corolla but little bit bigger. Round front, squareish back, white.

Just regrease the bearings and make sure the brushes are making good contact, i'm sure the motor will be ok from there.

Common problem is the switches, or atleast in older cars when used without relays.

Wagonist, i have the same problem... but mine goes down, just doesn't wanna come back up. Bloody electrics, ended up having to take the door card off and connect 12volts to the connection and then it went up like that, so i figure it cannot be the motor. Guess it could be the switches then... on the up side mmm

Sounds like an ST170 or ST150 to me then, not an ST190.

i had to dismantle my door trim and run 12 volt to it in the ttp car park....cops rocked up wanting proof of ownership....someone reported me as a car thief lol
