Unhappy EEK! Need a new loom for my 2JZ

Looks like the wiring under the bonnet has decided to turn to shit.

New one is defintely out of the question. Quoted $2,500 by Toyota.

Any ideas on where to start looking for a replacement... or a work around. 2JZ-GTE Looms don't seem to grow on trees.

    Not sure actually.

The car is Paul Pyyvaara's old MA61. I know the engine came from an Aristo. But thats all I know.

Try some engine importers. Even if they don't have one, you could always get them to get you one on their next trip to japan.

Can you be a bit more descriptive?

If the plugs are still fine you could re wire it using the old plugs and new wire....not many 2JZ-GTE aristo looms around like you said...

    Hi,
That would be up 95 year model, JZS147 (same as Southo's, Norbie's, and mine). I'd hazard a guess that few importers would bring in just the loom given that the engine is in high demand.

Phoenix01, please try and post some pictures - you are more likely to get accurate advice as the damage would have to be very severe to be unrepairable.

So Paul sold the MA61, eh....

PP's old car has been for sale about 3 times in the last year or so on the old forums.

I'm not sure whether its changed hands 3 times, or only a couple.

Thanks for the info guys. Going to talk to the mechanic today.

I asked if it could be re-wired but he seemed to indicate doing that was out of the question. But I'm thinking about doing it myself. Unfortunately my abilty to troubleshoot problems under the bonnet is very limited, hence why I'm paying someone to look at it, but I'm fairly handy with a pair of wire strippers and a soldering iron. On that note, anyone know a place in Brisbane I can get high temp-insulated wiring at short notice?

I'll keep you guys posted on how things progress.

Who told you the loom was stuffed? As Mos said, it would take something pretty drastic for a loom to shit itself, and even then, it's generally localised to a section, not the whole thing...

If the loom is stuffed now seems like a better time than ever to get an aftermarket ecu . Salvage the plugs off the old one and u got yourself a tunable ecu and a new loom and probably some change
    If in doubt power out

we can fix your loom. and have a "spare" 2jz loom, as well as all the diagnotic equipment needed to repair your existing loom. youre welcome to bring the car in for a quote, or if thats not possible, we might be able to come take a look and give you a proper idea of thats wrong with it.

short of an engine fire i dont think theres any way your loom is un-salvageable.

    pm me if you like.

shit, if u were in vic id bloody take a stab at fixing it, unless there as been a fire or an arseload of current flowing thru the loom(doubtful)... it cannot be that bad... although, corrosion?

I highly doubt any 90's Toyota loom could be that corroded it caused problems.
