    Default 4age turbo's & diff ratios

    Hi guys,

I'm wondering what diff gears you guys with turbo 4ag's run? I am at the stage where i need to pick a diff ratio to put into my 4age 20v turbo TA22. I have 3.73 and 4.1 ratios on the bench, can source others.

If you could post up what ratio, what gearbox, tyre size, and what you think of the ratio, that would be helpful.

    Cheers,
    Dave

    gday.

i think 3.9:1 would be the sweet spot. but as you have 4.1 already there wouldnt be much of a difference.

i have 4a turbo, w58, hilux diff with 4.3:1 at the moment (i have 3.73 to go in, its sitting in the box still) 16" rims with 215/45 tyres
i think the 4.3 is way to low, gears are too short and i get through to 5th to fast, highway cruising speed revs too high. turbo like a little load as well and as light as these cars are i dont think you need a low diff ratio.

3.73 will allow me too launch 1st gear much better and dampen the wheel spin through the gears. and ill be able to cross the traps in 4th, instead of 5th.

whats your main reasons for wanting to change ratios ?
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

    Hi,
I purchased a set of 4.3 gears for mine to give a little more poke out of corners, however after a discussion with my tuner (got it tuned this week), I will be keeping the stock F series gears (mx13 3.8:1 I think).

    15" rims, 205/55 series rubber.

I ended up choosing 4.1's, it will be interesting to see the results.

I worked out the top speed for each gear at 8000rpm and i get the following:
    1st 65km/h
    2nd 113km/h
    3rd 167km/h
    4th 213km/h
    5th 248km/h

this is with a W57, 4.10:1 diff, and 205/50R15 semi slicks. tyre slip and aerodynamic drag not factored in.
