hey guys i just took the rocker cover off & when 1 is at top dead center 4 ex valve just closed & 4 inlet is just opening

& all the valves move in the right order 1342

i tried today & it started to fire when i sprayed fuel down the carby, it wont fire when i do anything with the carby.

ive tried the air fuel mixture & nothing
ive tried moving the dizzy & nothing

it must be fuel as it only fires when i spray fuel down it

    engine timing is right
    dizzy timing is right
    its got spark
    its got compression
i tried jump starting it & thing (even with a fully recharged battery)
    its in neutral
    & the extractors are on

    so it must be fuel

for a few seconds it fired continously when i was spraying fuel down the carby when i stoped spraying it went back to cranking

    thx

    As 79GT said
make sure your carby solenoid has an ignition feed
Have you check this! Unless I've missed it I can't see a result from this suggestion. If this solenoid isn't getting power it shuts the fuel off, main purpose is to stop "dieselling" when you turn the ignition off.

    hey guys

yeah i thought of that today & gave it power & it makes a click when it gets power

    & nothing

any way im thinking water in the fuel as there cant be much more

so im going to buy get a full jery car of fuel & run a hose to the mechanical pump & try then
that will rule out the pump & the fuel

then it must be carby related

as i sprayed carby cleaner down it today while cranking & it started firing continuosly but not fast enough to start

    thx guys

Dude before you go spending $30 on 2 Litres of petrol just connect it up to the mechanical pump to make sure, wont take long at all and unless the mechanical one is cactus you can definantly rule it out of the equation. I dont know what type of electric pump it is but if is the one jeffro has explained then my money is that its the problem.
If it works and its the electric fuel pump that was buggered then get a new low psi electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator just to keep an eye on things (a rough guideline is that it should be pushing no more than 3psi max to the carby).

the fuel pump in the car shouldnt be screwed. Just way to big for a 3tc. Pumping to much pressure, it may not solve the problem but its something that is easily fixed if the mechanical pump is handy plus it needs to be done anyway.
When i had my 2tg in the car it was always lazy to start and fouled plugs regularly, i pointed my finger at the pump.

    yeah that sounds right

any way how can the electric pump be the problem
as the float is in the middle of the dot (as the manual says)
& the extra fuel goes back to the tank via return line
& when i turn it to on & te pump is pumping the float level is stable & doesnt even move

i turn the pump off & crank for a bit & the engine sunks the fuel in, stop cranking & turn the pump on & it fill the float up to the dot & then stops???

    thx

Most cars will start and run for a few seconds on a cap full (screw on cap off five litre oil container) of fuel poured down the throat of the carb. if you do this, have the choke open / off. and throttle wide open.....

Since you are not totally sure of the ignition timing, have someone ready with an old blanket, bucket of water etc . just in case it backfires and shoots fire everywhere.

if it starts, you will know that its fuel. if it doesnt, look further......

PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW TE PUMP COULD STOP THE CAR FROM STARTING
as the float is in the middle of the dot (As in the manual)
& when i turn the pump on the float still stays the same
then i turn it off & crank the float bowl goes down
then i stop & turn the pump on & the float fills up & stops

im thinking water in the tank

im going to buy some new fuel & hook it up under the mechanical pump & run a hose into the jerry can & crank see what happens

that will rule out the fuel & the pump if it doesnt start

    thx

yeah jeffro i know it needs to be done so il do it next week, but i cant see why it will stop the engine starting

i tried a cap of petrol down the carby today & it fired a few times then back to normal
but i poured it down, with the throttle closed then cranked it

ignition timing is right as i can spray carby cleaner down the throat & today i day it firing continously (but not running for a few seconds then back to cranking

    thx

i just rebuit the carby myself & down it exactly as the manual says

i soaked everything except rubber ect in a petrol, carby cleaner, wd40 brew for 1 night for each section
then cleaned & dried it out with a towel & then blew out all the passages & jets ect with compressed air

the jets cant be blocked as when i turn the elecetric pump off & crank the float level goes down

    thx

just get a $30 dollar timing light and actually check it.
but how do you know its 12 degrees BTDC or watever its ment to be?
How you describe the way youve done it seems to me like its retarded. You should put the crank on 12 BTDC then install dizzy so te rotor button points at number one lead post.
Atm your timing is probably more like 0.
