Default 22r to 22re fuel tank conversion question...

    G'Day fella's

    Merry xmas.

I have got all the gear to convert my 22R 93 xtra cab hilux to EFI, but am wondering what I should do with the fuel tank side of things.

Apparently the fuel lines in the EFI versions are different to be able to handle the extra pressure from the pump vs the mechanical carby...true or not ?

So... if anyone else has done this conversion, what did you do with the tank. Should I try and source a EFI fuel tank with inbuilt pump, or should I just use a surge tank and mount that in the back on the tray ?

    Cheers guys

my bus was a std diesel 96 hilux, i wacked a 1j in it and used all the std metal lines ,fitted a huge efi pump and filter and used 250 psi rubber hose and good quality doubled up hose clamps. lots of 4wdriving and no leaks or probs.just another thing , the fuel pump is to suit a 1985 mech injected v6 volvo and we managed to blow a test guage up trying to max the pump out . it still hadn,t stalled at 250 psi. another budget mod for you guys. cheers bigwad

big_wad - the 250psi rubber hoses u are talking about, where did u run them from and too ?

standard metal lines will happily cope with EFI pressures, it's any flexible hoses after the pump that you'll need to change to EFI-rated flexible hose.

nah not running standard lines, my lines are twice the size of standard (hard line).
im with chuck in running the standard lines. they will be fine for your power output.

tank to pump, pump to line ,line to engine ,rail to adjustable reg, reg to return and return to tank. basically all joining hoses. no need for a surge tank. cheers bigwad

    hey guys,

I still haven't gotten around to doing this conversion yet becuase I am stuck on the fuel tank.

Can someone suggest the best option for me.

How do I go about doing this using the standard tank?

Millsi, how much did the surge tank setup cost you, and how much space does it take up ? Will this be safe for me if I do a bit of 4wd'ing? I don't want any high pressure hoses blowing off or leaking while in the middle of no-where

So pretty much i'm stuck and unsure how to proceed with this.

    Thanks guys!!

Check out what the mini truckers use. I think use a commodore tank (not sure which one) as the mini truckers like to move the tank to the rear when notching the chassis. Its mounted up the back behind the diff from memory though.

I'm looking at putting in an RZN154 extra cab tank into my RN90 extra cab.

So far it looks like it will be a straight swap with only some wiring to do. I'll know more soon enough.
