    Hey guys,
As topic states, how do i change valve stem seals, preferably without taking off the head?

Tricky, but possible - I've done it on other engines, but not a 4AGE.

There's two main ways, and they're both crappy.
The most crappy is to get some plastic rope and stick as much of it down the sparkplug hole as you can, with the piston near TDC. Then turn the piston up to TDC so the rope is all tight in the chamber. That'll hold the valves up while you take the spring retainers off, etc.
The slightly less crap way is to use compressed air.
The pukka way is to remove the head and do it properly.

This is probably the best solution, not cheap but looks good.

ive never used the rope method, always use compressed air. but ive only done it on engines where you can get a valve spring compressor on the springs. on a 4age, youll need to make a leaver to compress the valve springs, wouldnt be too difficult if you take your time.

Rope works like a charm, I've never had a problem with it.
