Red face Introducing you to 1KD-FTV motor.

    Hi there,

Just to give a little bit of background to the motor. This motor has been developt by Toyota Motor Thailand and been used in Toyota Hilux Vigo, which in Thailand has the biggest range from single cab, dual cab to customise 4X4 pick up wagon. In 2005 and 2006 Toyota Hilux Vigo has picked up awards from many areas like Best Pick up, Higest sales, Best 4X4, Best Engine and many more.

Now in a very interesting case, I've been chatting with my friend who lived around my area in Thailand, he install this 1KD-FTV into his Toyota Soluna (in Thailand is very common used car like corolla) and have been getting great results. Hard for me to believe, the 1KD-FTV motor has got all the interests from modders over the 1JZ-GTE. The 2JZ-GTE that usually been recorded sold atleast twice a month in Bangkok has gone down to one in two months.

In Bangkok there is a 1KD-FTV club which mostly is people who modify this engine. All of them has so far satisfy with the performance.
    Here are engine specification:

Engine type: 1KD-FTV 3.0 inline 4 dohc vn turbo intercooler D4D commonrail
    Engine capacity: 2982
    Max Power: 110KW/150PS
    Max torque: 393NM

Engine type: 2KD-FTV 2.5 inline 4 dohc vn turbo intercooler D4D commonrail
    Engine capacity: 2482
    Max Power: 92KW/125PS
    Max torque: 325NM

These 2 are coomon in Hilux Vigo in Thailand. However there is a sport version of Hilux Vigo in Thailand came out to local market adding front/side and rear skirt. Larger Bonnet vent, fog light, roof spoiler, aluminium door steps, 17" alloys and sport speedo. The most interesting part in sport version is the engine, lets take a look. A Toyota genuine developt car use same 1KD-FTV with bigger turbo. A Vichai Karn Chang (VKC motor Thailand) has fusion Landcruiser engine and Hilux Vigo engine together making even more impressive power.

    Toyota Sport Version
Engine type: 1KD-FTV 3.0 inline 4 dohc vn T-25 turbo intercooler D4D commonrail
    Engine capacity: 2982
    Max Power: 144KW/196PS
    Max torque: 412NM

    VKC Motor Thailand Sport Version
Engine type: 1KD-FTE 3.0 inline 4 dohc vn T-25 twin turbo intercooler D4D commonrail
    Engine capacity: 2982
    Max Power: 195KW/266PS
    Max torque: 645NM

Impressive performance frm after market fusion of owned make VKC motor of the 1-KD-FTE has taken mooders attention to turn from 1JZ and 2JZ GTE to 1KD-FTE. Down the drag way, 35% of car entered is running a 1KD-FTE in 13sec, 14sec, 15sec and 16sec bracket.

I am trying to find more of the engine diagram and stuff but it is also very hard even in Google. I am asking my friend to give more information and maybe we might also see this is interesting stuff.

Here is a website for article about Toyota Hilux and Vios winning the price and ... Honda city ... http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/new...asp?ID=2005266

perhaps you should have this thread moved to general car talk...

it doesn't seem to be about tech or a conversion?

also, you seem to have a habit of saying
"Apology if thread does not interests"

if you think that, don't post the thread in the first place

Hey prog, thanks for the post.. really good info. It's always interesting learning about new engines and whatnot coming out around the world. This motor seems like it has a great base! (apart from the first one...110kw from a 3L seems a bit low...but i guess its got great torque!)..but yeah, much aftermarket following for this engine over in Thailand?

I mean this has been developt in Thailand. VKC Sport Hilux is not a after market modified car. It gets vehicle directly from Toyota and developt it and sell brand new. This also happens to IZUZU and MITSUBISHI (I believe it is authorised by Toyota as well coz it sell all over Bangkok). And yes in Thailand they do sell alot of after market products.

In term of thread sections, I am not sure where to post this. I was going to post in general car talk but its not really about car. Its sort of a conversion of motor and stuff more. (I guess)

well.. since you are not talking about modifying it or anything.. and it is general information.. the general car talk section is maybe more appropriate next time

Forgive my lack of knowledge but is a 3L 4 cyc anywhere else? That is the biggest 4 cyc i have heard of. Makes my 2L 6 seem a bit small

Can you give the guy a LITTLE bit of a break, seriously.

YES, he starts threads in a really bad fashion

YES, he isn't usually COMPLETELY right in what he says

YES, he doesn't always delineate the location of his threads correctly

    BUT,

    he IS trying

he DOES half the time supply interesting information (I didn't know squat about those engines till now)

he IS clearly of a different nationality and he's trying to assimilate the australian/english way of doing things / language, rather than sticking to his own.

    Give him a chance.

Yes Stew, you do know a lot more than the rest of us, as is clear by your 'reputation' points, and it's a knowledge of the automotive domain that I am no where near close to, as are most people on here.

This doesn't mean you have to put yourself up on a pedestal above the rest of us. Yes, you help a lot of people out, and yes you generally try to be helpful with people that you feel you can help / want to help. Doesn't give you the right to out right flame the ones you don't want to help.

Note for later mate, a "Common Rail" means it's Diesel. a 3L 4 cylinder diesel is largish, but not huge by diesel standards.

I think the navara comes with a 3L 4cyl diesel, or maybe even a touch larger, 3.2 maybe?
