$35 is a bit, how many people can the venue hold?
has there max 20 people so im guessing it holds 20 peopleOriginally Posted by HAVABEER
Its CS source. All games are LAN only except of course WoW and other internet games. We've closed most of the ports on the firewall.
If you guys want to BYO drinks, thats ok with me.
If we can't get enough Toymods guys, then I'll invite some regulars to pwn all your asses.
$35 is a bit steep, but its exclusive access to the PCs, and food/drinks. I might be able to give discounts to toymods financial members, all depends on numbers though.

10 -10 = 12hours
$35 / 12 = $2.90 per hour.
My local cafe was $2.50 an hour mates rates for the long term regulars.
I dont see how $35 is steep including food?
Some people are just too povo![]()

Well, I go to a 300+ person LAN every couple months called Valhalla. Cost $20 (no food I admit) and it's BYO PC. I also help run a smaller LAN of about 40 people and we charge $10-$15. Both LANs give away major prizes so for a LAN cafe it might not be much but as far as LAN events go it could be a little pricey for some.
A very nice idea though and even though it's $35 if I was in NSW I'd come along![]()
well we need 12 people for a definate go ahead. i'm definately coming (seeing as i'm half organising the thing)

take a look at what you wrote... BYO food and PC brings the cost down dramaticallyOriginally Posted by RObErT_RaTh
The venue owner for your $20 sessions does not have to worry about software licencing and subscription and the like in those cases as that's the PC owners resposability. All they need do is be able to configure the LAN so most people can use it (there is always one dimwit who has to be different and stuff it up for the rest)
I'm in, considering it's only around the corner for me, and I am a card carrying Revesby NETNLAN member
Pete,
are we able to consider some of the suggestions Toobs and I have made in previous threads (and our visit) regarding older games such as Postal 2, Total Annihilation, C&C, etc etc?
P.S. Dominoes ftw.
...... butt scratcher?!
When first starting the store, we underestimated the difficulty in maintaining 24 PCs. Installing games on 24 PCs is NOT an easy task. If you really wanted one for the night I'll do some research onto ease of install, but 3 is a bit much. We have had a lot of people come in with disks saying "just put it on" but its not that easy. (Last one was for LAN based WoW, which I never knew was out there!).
Last one we put on for someone Was CnC Red Alert or something like that. I think it was played for 2 hours and then forgotten.
... Total Annihilation is a great game
I wouldn't mind putting something like carmageddon on or something like that. They're cheap now, and is awesome multiplayer (like REALLY good).

Hehe Carmegeddon would be mad multiplayer, carnage would be well amusing. Only issue was it was a very bad game to play with a keyboard, really needed a steering wheel to make it fun.
I'm up for the LAN and as yet have nothing else on at the time, I'll pm u tonight once I check we have no family stuff on.
If in doubt power out
damn straight it is! I've got both TA (inc. multiplayer) and TA kingdoms at home... i might start playing them again actuallyOriginally Posted by Pete

installing is easy its just the continual net patches to keep em all compatible. Its time consuming and tedious to control![]()
ive got time up me sleeves also so holler if ya's need a hand!![]()

the only issue i see is having so many games available to play is that games like css or bf2 will not be of any use if only half the players are playing, would there be a way to open those games to be able to play on the net if there isn't enough of the lanners playing?

On a single PC that has administrator access. Sure, its quick and easy. On 24 PCs that are locked down so no one can hack into them, its not as easy.Originally Posted by TA-022

NO. Theres no chance of opening the firewall. (a lot of people ask us this)Originally Posted by djcougar
A lot of the time there will be only half a dozen people playing one game, which is great. For stuff like BF2 the more the merrier. It often needs a general consensus or a leader to organise "LETS PLAY THIS" type of thing. The other thing is, if there are 6 people in a game having fun, then others will join.
I've been to LAN events where half the people go and play games like WoW or watching a movie. So they're playing by themselves, but are just NEAR other gamers. Thats frustrating. Having everyone at a net cafe makes it a lot more communal.

I'm going to make an executive decision and say that WoW should not be played at the Toymods LAN - simply for it's antisocial atmosphere cast towards those who dont play it.
I rekon stick to the usual biffo games... it keeps all the punters happy. Having one good Multiplayer car racing or car related game (like Carmageddon) would be absolutely HORN too...
... and beer.

Agreed I've never played WoW, and games like CS and other FPS are good in the apsect say doing fun maps that its a quick turn over. No one is left being bored as they have died and then waiting for others to finish.Originally Posted by The Witzl
Only issue with Carmeggedon is the checkpoints to race if someone doesn't make one they'll be waiting a while for others to finish depending on the track.
