I'm looking for another Toyota Crown automatic transmission that will mate to the 5mge engine, I have a couple of MS85 series Crowns automatic transmissions in A1 condition and am wondering if they would be usable behind a 5mge engine.
Should not be a problem as they run the same pattern as the 5MGE when you do,make sure you use the 3 spd torque converter also as these are different to the 5MGE auto.
Cheers Brett.
Thanks Brett, I'm looking for another option to having the 4 speed rebuilt and have a fully rebuild 3 speed in a ms85 in my parts car, I'll go about using this.
You may also need to run the flexplate from the MS85 too, and in doing that check to make sure that the 5MGE starter motor will engage. I doubt it'll be a problem, but its something worth checking beforehand.
I'm gathering the 5MGE auto is an A43DE ?
If so, disconnect the ECT ECU (normally not far from the engine ECU) to stop the O/D OFF light from flashing.
You'll need to do some wiring to get the reverse lights to work, and the NSW.
What is this flexplate you mentioned and have no idea what the auto is all I know is its a 4 speed electronic auto with a bad grind in the gears.
I'm no good at your modern day wording so what's ECT ECU stand for.
Flexplate is what the torque convertor bolts to.
ECT ECU is the ecu for the gearbox.
Electronic Control Unit is that correct.
Indeed it is
And the ETC stands for Electronic Controlled Transmission
